Reunited in the Light

The Secret Inside the Wall Revealed a Family's Hidden Past

The heavy oak door swung open slowly with a low creaking sound that echoed through the room.

Dust particles floated through the dim yellow light that spilled inside the small hidden concrete chamber.

Sitting on a small wooden chair was twenty-two-year-old Clara, wearing a thin gray sweater and jeans.

She shielded her eyes from the sudden bright daylight with a trembling pale hand against her face.

Mark: Clara, my dear sweet girl, I am so sorry I did not find you sooner!

Mark rushed into the narrow room and pulled his daughter into a tight, tearful warm embrace.

Clara sobbed softly against her father's shoulder as months of lonely fear finally melted completely away.

Clara: She told me you knew I was here and that you wanted me locked away forever.

Mark: I never knew anything about this terrible crime until Lily gave you bread today through vent!

Lily stepped into the doorway holding her small doll tightly against her chest with both hands.

Lily: I am sorry Mommy crushed the rest of the white bread on the floor, Clara.

Clara looked over at her little half-sister with deep love and smiled through her warm tears.

Clara: You were my brave little angel who saved my life when nobody else could hear me.

Mark helped Clara stand up carefully because her legs were weak from sitting inside for months.

Mark: We are leaving this house right now and calling the police from my personal cellular phone.

They walked together out of the dusty storage pantry and back into the main grand hallway.

Victoria was standing near the front entrance with a small leather suitcase resting by her feet.

She froze in place when she saw Clara standing safely beside Mark in the bright sunlight.

Victoria: You cannot bring the police into this home without ruining our good name in town!

Mark: You destroyed our family name yourself the day you locked Clara behind that wall!

Victoria: I only did it so we could keep the entire family trust fund for ourselves!

Mark: Money means nothing compared to the safety and love of my sweet precious children today!
