The Final Settlement

The Secret Husband Crashing My Billionaire Wedding Dinner

Two weeks later, the afternoon light poured softly into Ethan’s private office on the forty-fourth floor.

Mark Stevens sat across from Ethan’s mahogany desk, reviewing a series of newly drafted legal documents.

Mark: The district attorney formally accepted Chloe’s cooperation agreement this morning, Mr. Vance.

Ethan: Did she agree to testify against Julian Ross in open court?

Mark: Full testimony, complete records, and every text message she ever received. In exchange, she gets three years of supervised probation instead of federal prison time.

Ethan looked out the massive window at the city streets below, his expression calm and unreadable.

Ethan: What happened to her mother?

Mark: That was the one truth she told. Her mother is in the county charity hospital, waiting on a specialized dialysis machine they can barely afford.

Ethan opened his desk drawer, pulled out a personalized corporate checkbook, and uncapped his fountain pen.

Mark: Mr. Vance? What are you doing?

Ethan: I'm writing a check to the hospital foundation directly. Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to cover her mother’s complete treatment.

Mark stared at Ethan in utter disbelief, his eyebrows furrowing.

Mark: After everything she did to you? She tried to steal your inheritance, Ethan. She lied to your face every single day.

Ethan: Her mother didn't forge that marriage certificate, Mark. Her mother is an innocent woman dying in a cold ward because her daughter made terrible choices.

Mark: You're a far better man than anyone in this city gives you credit for.

Ethan: I'm not doing it for Chloe. I'm doing it so Chloe can never look in the mirror and tell herself she had to ruin people to save her family.

Ethan slid the signed check across the desk into an unmarked white envelope and handed it to Mark.

Ethan: Deliver this to the medical director anonymously. Not a single word to Chloe about where the funds came from.

Mark: Consider it done, sir.

Ethan: And one more thing, Mark. Vance Holdings is creating a new director of corporate risk and asset investigation.

Mark tilted his head, a faint, surprised smile touching his lips.

Mark: Are you offering me a job, Mr. Vance?

Ethan: You risked your personal safety to walk into my dining room and expose the biggest scheme in this firm’s history. Loyalty like that is hard to find in this town.

Mark: I would be honored to accept, Ethan.

The two men shook hands across the desk, a quiet understanding passing between them.

After Mark left the office, Ethan stood alone in the quiet room, looking at the small velvet jewelry box sitting on the edge of his bookshelf.

He picked up the box, opened it, and looked at the seven-carat emerald-cut diamond ring one last time.

With a slow, deliberate movement, he closed the lid with a firm click, slipped it into his safe, and shut the steel door.

The trust fund was secured, the traitors were behind bars, and Ethan Vance finally controlled his own destiny on his own terms.
