David quickly walked up the rest of the stairs and knelt down on the hardwood floor beside Clara.
He placed a firm, comforting hand on Clara’s shoulder, looking into her tear-filled eyes with deep gratitude.
David: Are both of you alright?
Clara: We are now, thank you, sir.
David: You saved my child's life today.
David reached into his suit jacket, pulled out his smartphone, and tapped the screen with fast fingers.
He held the phone up to his ear while keeping a protective stance over Clara and his baby boy.
David: 911, send police to my home address immediately.
David: I have an attempted child endangerment incident in progress.
Victoria scrambled up from the floor, her face pale with total horror as she realized her plan had failed.
Victoria: David, please! Do not call the police on me!
Victoria: We can talk about this privately like adults!
David: There is nothing left for us to talk about.
Within ten minutes, the flashing red and blue lights of police cruisers reflected through the tall windows.
Two officers entered the grand foyer while house security held Victoria near the front entrance doors.
Clara pointed out the corner security camera mounted high on the central molding of the main hallway.
Clara: The security camera caught everything that happened on the balcony.
Clara: You can review the footage right now, officer.
The police officer checked the local feed on the security system monitor inside David's private office.
The video clearly showed Victoria grabbing the baby seat handle and shoving it forcefully toward the railing.
It also showed Clara’s heroic quick slide to grab the seat handle just in time to save Leo.
The head officer walked out into the foyer and placed metal handcuffs tightly around Victoria’s wrists.
Officer: Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for dangerous child endangerment.
Victoria: You are making a huge mistake! Unhand me!
The officers led the screaming woman out through the massive double doors and into the rainy morning.
