An hour later, a private family doctor treated Leo's bruised arm.
The boy rested comfortably on the soft living room couch.
Richard sat at his grand mahogany office desk upstairs.
Sarah stood respectfully across from him holding a silver tray.
Richard pulled out a thick brown envelope from his desk drawer.
Private investigators delivered the document earlier that morning to him.
"Victoria was not who she claimed to be," Richard revealed softly.
Sarah set the hot tea down and listened very carefully.
"Her family lost their vast fortune three years ago," Richard explained.
"She was deeply in debt to major international banks," he added.
Victoria planned to marry Richard solely for his immense trust fund.
She knew Leo stood to inherit the main estate legally.
If Leo was removed, Victoria would gain control of everything.
Her sudden outburst on the stairs was not an accident.
She wanted to scare the young boy into submission forever.
"She thought she could manipulate me," Richard said sternly.
"I almost made the biggest mistake of my life," he confessed.
Richard looked directly into Sarah's kind brown eyes.
"You saved my son's life today," Richard said quietly.
"I only did what any decent person would do," Sarah answered.
"Most people would have kept quiet to save their job," Richard noted.
He reached into his desk and pulled out a gold fountain pen.
Richard signed a series of legal papers lying on the desk.
"I am revoking Victoria's access to all my properties," he said.
"My corporate legal team is filing a lawsuit immediately," Richard added.
"She will face full criminal charges for child endangerment," he vowed.
Sarah felt a strong sense of justice wash over her heart.
The evil woman would finally pay for her cruel actions.
Suddenly, a soft knock sounded on the open office door.
Leo stood in the doorway wearing his cozy blue pajamas.
His left arm was wrapped neatly in a clean white bandage.
"Daddy, can Sarah stay with us forever?" Leo asked softly.
Richard smiled warmly and beckoned his brave son forward.
Leo ran into his father's open arms and sat down.
Richard looked up at Sarah with a thoughtful expression.
"Sarah, I want to offer you a new position," Richard said.
"I want you to be Leo's full-time guardian and manager."
"You will receive a permanent salary and estate residency," he offered.
Sarah's eyes filled with bright tears of pure joy.
