The Words That Hurt

The Rich Man Who Found His Daughter Mopping The Floor

David lifted Lily up into his arms and wiped her wet cheeks.

He picked up the soft white teddy bear and handed it to her.

Lily hugged the plush toy tightly against her little chest and sniffled.

David: Tell me what else happened while I was away, sweetie.

Lily looked over at Victoria with deep fear inside her dark eyes.

Lily: She said I do not belong in this big house.

David: Why would she ever say something like that to you?

Lily: She said I am not your real biological daughter, Daddy.

David froze in place and felt a surge of hot anger rise inside.

He turned his head slowly to glare directly at his glamorous wife.

Victoria stood on the stairs without showing any regret on her face.

David: Did you actually say those cruel words to my child?

Victoria: It is the truth and she should know it early.

David: Lily has been my daughter since the day she was born!

Victoria: You adopted her before we met, so she is not family.

David took three quick steps forward with a furious look in his eyes.

He slapped the wine glass out of Victoria's hand with immense force.

The fine crystal glass shattered against the marble floor into tiny pieces.

Red wine spilled all over the expensive white floor like a dark stain.

Victoria gasped loudly and took a quick step back up the stairs.

Victoria: How dare you destroy my favorite crystal wine glass, David!

David: How dare you treat my daughter like a servant in my house!

A massive American flag hung on the wall behind the grand entryway.

David stood directly underneath it as his shadow covered the high wall.

David: Get out of my sight before I completely lose my mind!

Victoria: This is my home too and you cannot kick me out!

David: I bought this estate five years before I ever met you!

Victoria adjusted her long silk dress and sneered down at the man.

Victoria: Your name is on the deed, but my lawyer knows better.

David: Are you threatening me in my own foyer right now?

Victoria: I am telling you that I have rights in this marriage.

Lily hid her face in David's neck and began to sob quietly.

David patted her back softly and tried to calm his quick breathing.

David: Go up to your room right now, Victoria, and pack.

Victoria: I am not going anywhere until my lawyer arrives tomorrow.

David pointed his finger straight at the grand front door of the mansion.

David: Leave this room right now before I call security guards.

Victoria turned around angrily and walked quickly up the wide staircase.

Her high heels clicked loudly against the hard polished wooden steps.

David stood near the door holding his daughter safe inside his arms.
