The Stroller on the Stairs

The Rich Gold Dress Liar and the Brave House Maid

The baby stroller sat resting near the landing of the long, steep marble stairs leading downstairs.

Little Maya was sitting safely inside the stroller, cooing softly and playing with a bright yellow plush toy.

Victoria stepped closer to the baby stroller while checking her shiny golden fingernails in the bright sunlight.

She glanced around the upper hallway to make sure no adults were standing nearby watching her actions.

She saw Sarah walking down the lower hall toward the spacious white kitchen with a white cloth.

Victoria placed her manicured hand on the rubber handle of the heavy metal baby stroller very carefully.

With a sudden quick motion, she released the side brake and gave the stroller a deliberate hard push.

The stroller rolled rapidly toward the edge of the steep marble steps without any sign of stopping.

The front wheels tipped over the top step with a sharp, terrifying clatter that echoed through the hall.

Sarah heard the sudden loud mechanical noise and turned her head back toward the stairs in terror.

Her eyes widened with total panic as she saw the stroller rolling down the hard marble steps.

Little Maya started to cry loudly as the carriage bounced wildly down the steep flight of stairs.

Sarah dropped her cleaning rag instantly and sprinted across the polished floor toward the base of stairs.

She threw her arms wide and slid across the hard floor to catch the falling baby carriage safely.

The metal wheels struck Sarah's arms hard, but she held the stroller tight and stopped the fall.

She scooped little Maya out of the seat quickly and cradled the crying infant close to her chest.

"I saved her! The baby is safe!" Sarah shouted out with a desperate, heavy gasp of relief.

She held the trembling child gently while tears of pure fear streamed down her pale young cheeks.

Up at the top of the stairs, Victoria looked down with a cruel and calculation look in her eyes.

Instead of showing relief, Victoria immediately put on a fake expression of deep shock and intense panic.
