Officer Miller pulled five million dollars worth of original blue stock certificates from the leather bag, holding them up in the bright daylight filling the living room.
Officer Miller: These certificates are made out directly to the Evelyn Sterling Revocable Trust. Why were these in your personal handbag, Miss Sterling?
Alexis: I was moving them to a secure bank deposit box downtown for safe keeping!
Arthur: As legal counsel for the Sterling estate, I can verify that Miss Alexis holds zero authorization to handle, move, or transport physical securities belonging to the trust.
David: You weren't taking them to a bank box, Alexis. You were meeting Robert Thorne to sell them on the secondary private market at a thirty percent discount for fast cash!
Alexis fell silent, her lips trembling as her elaborate scheme crumbled completely in front of the authorities.
Officer Miller: Alexis Sterling, you are officially under arrest for attempted grand larceny, elder abuse, coercion, and possession of stolen securities.
Alexis: David! Please! Don't let them put handcuffs on me in my own living room!
David: You chose this path the moment you raised your fist against my mother, Alexis.
Alexis: I'll give everything back! I'll sign a waiver renouncing my living rights to the mansion!
David: You don't get to bargain anymore. The law will handle you now.
The deputy pulled Alexis's arms behind her back, clicking the cold steel handcuffs around her wrists with a sharp metallic snap.
Alexis: Clara, you little snitch! You ruined my life! You're nothing but a maid!
Clara: I may be a maid, Alexis, but I have honor. You have millions of dollars and not a single shred of decency.
Evelyn: Well spoken, Clara. Well spoken indeed.
Officer Miller: Let's go, ma'am. The magistrate is waiting at the central booking station downtown.
The deputies escorted the weeping, screaming Alexis out through the grand double front doors, leaving behind a sudden, peaceful silence inside the sunlit foyer.
Arthur Vance placed his iPad back into his briefcase, taking a deep breath as he looked over at David and Mrs. Evelyn.
Arthur: The criminal charges will easily revoke her status as a trust beneficiary, David. She won't receive another dime from the family estate.
David: Good. Make sure Robert Thorne's legal license is revoked by the Texas State Bar by five o'clock today as well.
Arthur: I've already filed the emergency grievance petition with the bar association, David. He won't practice law in this state ever again.
Evelyn: Thank goodness... it's finally over.
David walked over to Clara, taking both of her hands in his with a warm, genuine smile.
David: Clara, I don't even know how to properly thank you for what you did today.
Clara: You don't need to thank me, Mr. David. Doing the right thing is its own reward.
David: Nonsense. You put yourself in physical danger to protect my mother when you could have easily turned around and walked away.
Clara: I could never turn my back on Mrs. Evelyn. She's been nothing but kind to me since I started working here three years ago.
Evelyn: David, bring that girl closer to my chair, please.
