Water dripped steadily from the hem of my beige trench coat, forming a small puddle on the gleaming marble floor of the grand hotel lobby. A waiter had stumbled with a tray of iced water moments ago, soaking me completely right as I walked through the sliding glass doors. I stood there near the towering crystal chandelier, wiping the dampness from my face with a paper napkin, maintaining a completely calm and confident expression despite the cold chill clinging to my clothes.
Glitter Dress Woman: You really should watch where you stand!
I looked up to see a glamorous blonde woman in a sparkling silver sequin gown stepping toward me, her arms crossed tight over her chest. Beside her stood a man in a tailored blue suit, looking down at his phone with an air of complete arrogance while holding her arm.
Glitter Dress Woman: Look at the mess you're making on the floor! This area is for private VIP guests only. My fiancé runs this hotel, you know!
Coat Woman: Is that so? He runs this entire property?
Glitter Dress Woman: That's right! Brandon is the general manager and executive director here! People like you don't belong in the main concourse looking like a wet dog!
I looked at the woman calmly, completely unfazed by her sharp words or her smug smile. Reaching into my damp coat pocket, I pulled out my smartphone and tapped the screen, dialing a contact saved as "Hotel Owner."
Coat Woman: I'm calling your fiancé right now.
Across the wide marble floor, the man in the blue suit suddenly reached into his jacket as his phone vibrated loudly. He answered it with a confused, nervous expression, pressing the speaker against his ear.
Brandon: Hello? Who is this?
Coat Woman: Come over here, Brandon.
I stepped uncomfortably close to the arrogant blonde woman, staring directly into her wide eyes while her fiancé trotted over in complete shock. I leaned in with a small, authoritative smirk as her jaw dropped in utter horror.
Coat Woman: Brandon doesn't run this hotel... he works for me.
