Arthur Sterling marched into the grand foyer, holding a thick brown leather briefcase under his left arm.
He had returned home early from his executive business meeting to surprise his young daughter for lunch.
The echoing shouts from the upper hallway immediately drew his fast attention toward the east gallery wing.
Arthur hurried up the grand winding staircase, taking two wide marble steps at a single time.
When he rounded the corner, he saw his wife Victoria standing directly over the brave housemaid.
The massive portrait was swung completely wide open, exposing the dark hidden hollow behind the wall.
Arthur dropped his expensive leather briefcase onto the polished floor as his face turned pale white.
"What is happening right here in my house?" Arthur demanded in a voice full of cold fury.
Victoria spun around quickly, trying her best to smooth down her champagne silk dress with shaking hands.
"Arthur darling, this useless maid was trying to steal our expensive family heirloom!" Victoria lied immediately.
"Daddy, she locked me inside the dark wall!" Lily sobbed loudly while pulling away from the ropes.
Arthur pushed past his wife with rapid powerful strides and dropped down onto his hands and knees.
He quickly unfastened the remaining silk ribbons from his daughter's tiny ankles and held her close.
"Daddy has got you sweetie, you are safe now," Arthur whispered while holding her against his chest.
Elena stepped back respectfully, allowing the loving father to hold his frightened child securely.
"She found out about the offshore trust fund bank account!" Victoria yelled, panicking completely now.
Arthur stood up slowly while keeping his young daughter secured safely behind his strong shoulder frame.
His eyes were fixed upon his wife with a cold intensity that made Victoria step backward nervously.
"You locked my helpless nine-year-old daughter inside a dark hollow wall?" Arthur asked very quietly.
"She was poking her nose into things that do not concern her!" Victoria spat out in anger.
"You are completely out of your mind!" Arthur shouted, his deep voice shaking the entire hallway floor.
"I did everything for this family and for your immense corporate wealth!" Victoria shouted back defensively.
Elena stood quietly near the open wall compartment, watching the dramatic confrontation unfold before her eyes.
She noticed a small metal box sitting near the back floorboards of the dark hidden space.
The metal box was painted dark silver and had a heavy brass padlocked latch securing its cover.
"Mr. Sterling, there is something else inside this secret wall compartment," Elena mentioned very softly.
Arthur turned his attention toward the maid while keeping a firm protective grip on young Lily.
Victoria gasped loudly and rushed forward in a desperate attempt to cover the open wall space.
"Touch that box and I will make sure you never work again!" Victoria screamed at Elena violently.
Arthur reached out his strong arm and grabbed Victoria's wrist tightly before she could strike Elena.
"Do not lay a single finger on her!" Arthur warned in a low dangerous voice that echoed.
He pushed Victoria back firmly, causing her to stumble onto the polished marble hallway floor surface.
Victoria sat on the hard floor, clutching her expensive silk dress while glaring with total hatred.
Elena reached deep inside the hidden wall opening and retrieved the heavy silver metal box carefully.
She handed the metal container directly to Arthur, who took it with his cold trembling hand.
"The key is around her neck!" Lily pointed out with a small trembling finger toward Victoria.
Arthur turned his stern gaze back to his wife, who was scrambling backward on her hands.
