Elena walked down the stone steps with a defensive glare.
"David, do not listen to this disgruntled house maid."
"She found an old playroom key and made up a story."
Sarah pulled a small silver photo locket from Lily's hand.
The locket had been tucked inside the girl's tiny pocket.
Sarah handed the small locket directly to David Sterling.
David opened the metal piece and saw his brother's writing.
The note inside listed the legal trust details for Lily.
It clearly named David as the child's legal protector.
David looked up at Elena with anger rising in his chest.
"You forged the custody documents after my brother passed away."
Elena's face went completely pale in the bright sunlight.
"I did what was necessary for the estate," Elena stammered.
"You hid a helpless toddler inside a hidden wall cavity."
David reached into his coat and pulled out his phone.
He dialed the local police department on speaker phone immediately.
"Hello, operator, I need officers sent to the Sterling estate."
Elena took a step back toward the front door entrance.
"David, we can talk about this inside privately!"
"There is nothing left to talk about," David declared firmly.
Sarah sat down on the stone bench holding little Lily.
The child finally stopped crying and looked up calmly.
The sound of approaching sirens echoed from down the road.
Elena looked around frantically, knowing her time was up.
