The paramedics moved quickly to place Margaret safely into the back of the ambulance.
Mark stood near the staircase with his hands clutched firmly behind his head.
Chloe walked over to him and placed a soft hand on his arm.
Chloe: Mark, sweetheart, we need to head to the hospital right now.
Before Mark could answer, a police officer stepped into the grand foyer.
Officer Davis held a bright digital tablet firmly in his right hand.
Officer Davis: Sir, you need to see this before anyone leaves the premises.
Mark turned away from Chloe and looked straight at the police officer.
Mark: Did someone call the police? I thought only the ambulance was coming.
Officer Davis: The security system triggered an automatic silent alarm during the incident.
The officer tapped the bright screen and turned the tablet around for Mark to view.
Chloe suddenly gasped loudly and took a small step backward.
Chloe: Mark, we don't have time for this nonsense! Your mother needs us!
Mark: Hold on a second, Chloe. Let me see what the officer has.
Mark glared at the video playing on the smooth screen.
The footage showed the top of the grand marble staircase in high definition visual detail.
He watched his mother standing near the top landing holding a stack of legal files.
Chloe approached her rapidly with a furious expression on her face.
They appeared to argue intensely for a brief moment near the edge of the stairs.
Then Chloe reached out with both hands and firmly shoved Margaret backwards.
Mark felt his heart drop straight into his stomach as he watched the shove.
The video clearly showed Chloe standing at the top while Margaret fell.
Chloe had not tried to grab her or save her from falling down the stairs.
She had simply watched her mother-in-law tumble all the way to the bottom landing.
Mark stared at the glowing screen while his jaw clenched tightly with burning rage.
The officer cleared his throat as he turned the tablet off.
Officer Davis: As you can see, sir, this was definitely not an accident.
Mark slowly turned his head to look directly into Chloe's frightened eyes.
