The distant wail of police sirens grew louder, echoing up the long iron-gated driveway of the Bel-Air estate.
Evelyn: Marcus, please... call them off! We can handle this internally within the family!
Marcus: You are no longer family to me. You are a threat to my wife and my child.
Evelyn: Think of the headlines! The Sterling name will be dragged through the mud in every newspaper across the country!
Clara: The only name being dragged through the mud is yours, Evelyn. The Sterling legacy belongs to Toby now.
The heavy front double doors opened once again as Chief Officer Miller and three armed police officers entered the grand foyer, their boots clicking firmly against the checkered marble.
Chief Miller: Mr. Sterling! We received the emergency panic dispatch and the automated video link!
Marcus: Chief Miller, thank you for coming so quickly. The suspect is upstairs on the balcony.
Chief Miller: Officer Davis, Officer Perez, secure the balcony immediately.
Evelyn: Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?! My father built the city library!
Officer Davis: Ma'am, turn around and place your hands behind your back!
The two officers marched up the grand stairs, grabbing Evelyn by her wrists. The sharp metallic click of handcuffs echoed through the high-ceilinged room as her golden satin dress was pulled tight behind her back.
Evelyn: MARCUS! TELL THEM TO RELEASE ME THIS INSTANT!
Marcus: You're going where you belong, Evelyn. To a state penitentiary.
Chief Miller: Evelyn Sterling, you are under arrest for attempted murder of a minor, grand larceny, wire fraud, and child endangerment.
Evelyn: YOU WILL ALL REGRET THIS! MY LAWYERS WILL SUE THIS ENTIRE POLICE DEPARTMENT!
Clara: Your lawyers resigned thirty minutes ago when the federal prosecutor froze your retainer accounts, Evelyn.
Evelyn let out a hysterical shriek as the officers escorted her down the grand marble staircase. Her designer heels dragged uselessly against the stone as she was led out through the double front doors into the flashing red and blue lights of the waiting patrol cars.
Chief Miller turned to Marcus and Clara, offering a respectful nod.
Chief Miller: We have the 4K video file backed up on our precinct server, Mr. Sterling. This case is airtight. She won't be seeing the outside of a cell for a very long time.
Marcus: Thank you, Chief. We will be down to the station later to give our formal statements.
Chief Miller: Take your time, sir. Make sure your family is safe.
As the police officers left, shutting the heavy oak doors behind them, a profound silence settled over the sunny foyer.
