The sound of heavy tires crunching on the gravel driveway outside echoed inside.
Victoria glanced nervously toward the front window near the large American flag.
Victoria: Who is coming up the driveway to this house right now?
Sarah: I called the police the very moment you forced your way inside.
Marcus: You called the cops on your own family members, Sarah?
Sarah: You ceased being family when you threatened my child's safety today.
Eleanor stood up fully with Sarah's assistance and straightened her floral dress neatly.
She held out the forged document for everyone in the room to see clearly.
Eleanor: Look at the judge's official stamp at the bottom of this page.
Sarah: It says District Nine, but our county is District Twelve.
Marcus: Victoria told me her lawyer prepared these forms correctly yesterday!
Victoria: Keep your mouth shut, Marcus, before you ruin everything completely!
Sarah: He already ruined everything by following your evil scheme, Victoria.
The front door opened wide as two uniformed police officers stepped inside quickly.
Their heavy boots clacked sharply against the polished hardwood of the sunlit entrance.
Officer Miller: We received a distress call regarding a break-in and assault.
Sarah: These two forced their way in and tried to steal my child with forged papers.
Victoria: That is a complete lie, officer, because we are the rightful guardians!
Officer Miller looked at the papers Eleanor held out toward his gloved hand.
Officer Miller: Ma'am, please hand those documents over so I can inspect them.
Eleanor handed the forged custody papers directly to the senior police officer.
The officer scanned the seals and signatures with a stern, focused gaze.
Officer Miller: This judicial seal is clearly fake and marked with incorrect districts.
Victoria: There must be some kind of clerical mistake from the court clerk!
Officer Miller: Court clerks do not misspell the name of the county court.
