The morning sun beamed down across the sprawling back patio of the estate, shining over the clear water of the swimming pool. An American flag fluttered gently on a tall silver pole near the lawn, soaking up the peaceful summer weather. But inside the mansion, the air was thick with tension.
Maya stood near the kitchen island, quietly folding baby clothes while keeping her eyes fixed on the glass back doors. As the hired maid for the rich Vance family, she had spent the last three years caring for little Leo like he was her own son. But ever since Victoria married Leo's father, Marcus Vance, everything in the house had changed.
Maya: Please, Victoria... Leo needs his morning nap. He hasn't slept all morning.
Victoria: Do not tell me how to manage my own stepson, Maya. I know exactly what he needs.
Maya: I just don't want him getting fussy in the heat.
Victoria: Go back inside and clean the kitchen like you are paid to do. I am taking Leo out by the pool.
Victoria wore a stunning gold designer dress that shimmered under the bright sunlight, her blonde hair pulled back in a tight, perfect bun. She stepped out onto the concrete patio, her high heels clicking loudly against the wet stone tiles as she gripped the handle of the black baby stroller.
Maya watched through the glass doors, her stomach twisting into a nervous knot. Something about the way Victoria was walking felt off. Victoria didn't stop near the shade of the patio umbrellas or the outdoor lounge chairs. Instead, she pushed the heavy stroller straight toward the deep end of the pool.
Victoria: Such a beautiful day for a walk, isn't it, Leo?
Maya: Victoria! Stop! You're getting too close to the edge!
Victoria didn't answer. Her face remained completely cold and expressionless as she gave the stroller a sudden, violent shove. The wheels rolled rapidly over the concrete edge, and the heavy black stroller plunged directly into the deep end of the pool with a massive splash.
Maya: NO!
Maya burst through the back glass doors in sheer panic, her heart stopping as she saw the stroller sinking rapidly under the blue water. Without pausing to take off her shoes or uniform, she dove headfirst into the freezing pool, determined to save the baby before it was too late.
