David took the paper into his hands and scanned the official words printed on it.
His eyes widened as he recognized the name of the agency his adoptive parents had named.
He looked down at the tiny pink blanket resting against his shiny black shoes.
He picked up the soft cloth and held it against his hand with deep wonder.
His adoptive mother had always told him about a pink blanket left in his crib.
It was the only personal item his birth mother had kept for him back then.
David: You... you are the woman from the hospital records in San Antonio?
Eleanor: My name is Eleanor. I was so young and sick when you were born.
Eleanor: I never had a house or money to give you a real home then.
Eleanor: I prayed every single night that a good family would raise you right.
David felt a lump form in his throat as he looked closely at her face.
He could see his own eyes and the shape of his nose reflected in her.
Carla stomped her designer heel against the marble floor with a loud, sharp noise.
Carla: This is complete madness! She downloaded that fake paper off the internet!
Carla: She is a scammer trying to get a lawsuit settlement out of your estate!
David: Shut your mouth, Carla! Look at her face and look at this blanket!
Carla: I do not care about some trashy rag from thirty long years ago!
Carla: She grabbed me, so I slapped her across the face to protect myself!
David stood up slowly, holding the baby blanket tightly in his right hand now.
He looked at his bride with a terrifying calm that made her step back.
David: You slapped an old woman? You slapped my biological mother on our wedding day?
Carla: She is nobody, David! She lives in poverty while we belong to high society!
Carla: Your real family is my father's corporate company and our new mansion house!
David: My adoptive parents taught me to respect every human being on this earth.
David: They passed away five years ago, but their lessons stay with me forever.
Carla: Do not make a huge mistake right before our multi-million dollar merger event!
David: You only care about money, status, and luxury cars, don't you, Carla?
Carla: That is what life is about! Power, influence, and keeping dirty people away!
David turned his back on Carla and helped Eleanor stand up off the floor.
He brushed the dust off her old coat with his hand very gently.
