David walked down the corridor with long quick strides while his heart pounded against his chest.
He stopped directly in front of the locked wooden door at the end of the long hallway.
The brass key sat inside the keyhole just as his young daughter had described to him.
David: Mother, are you inside this room right now?
Clara: Yes David, I have been trapped inside this dark space for almost two hours!
David grabbed the iron handle and turned the key until a loud metal click echoed out.
He pulled the heavy wooden door open and stepped into the small dim room right away.
His mother sat on a small wooden crate wearing her best blue silk dress in the corner.
Her hands were trembling as she reached up toward her son in the soft hallway light.
David: Mother, how did this happen to you on my wedding morning?
Clara: Evelyn asked me to look for extra tablecloths in here right after breakfast ended.
David: She locked this heavy door behind you on purpose?
Clara: She told me through the door that I did not belong at her luxury event.
David helped his mother stand up on her feet and brushed the dust from her blue dress.
Lily ran into the small room and wrapped her arms tightly around her grandmother's waist.
Lily: I told you I would save you from that dark room, Grandma!
Clara: You were so brave, my wonderful little girl.
David looked at his mother's sad eyes and felt an overwhelming wave of pure anger inside.
He turned around slowly and saw Evelyn standing near the entrance of the narrow hallway.
She was holding her veil with one hand while trying to maintain her calm graceful posture.
Evelyn: David, I only did it because she wanted to wear that tacky old dress!
David: That dress belonged to my late grandmother and holds deep meaning for our family!
Evelyn: It does not fit the high society aesthetic of the photographers I hired today!
David: You locked my mother in a dark closet for social media photo appearances?
Evelyn: She was going to embarrass us in front of all the city executives!
David clenched his fists tightly by his sides as he stepped closer to his fiancé.
David: You have shown me exactly who you truly are before I made a terrible mistake.
Evelyn: David, please let us talk about this privately after the ceremony is finished!
