The Secret Inside The Envelope

Sarah: "Lily! Who is that at the door? What happened out there?"

Lily: "Mom! He crashed his bike! But look what he has!"

Sarah: "Oh my goodness! Sir, are you alright? You're bleeding!"

Marcus: "I'm fine, ma'am. Your daughter saved my life out on the street[cite: 1]. She gave me water when I passed out from heat exhaustion[cite: 1]."

Sarah: "Lily, go get the first aid kit! Sir, please sit down on the porch couch."

Marcus: "I don't need bandages right now, Mrs. Miller. You need to look at this document immediately."

Sarah took the heavy sealed envelope from Marcus's hand, her brow furrowing as she read the prominent red stamp from the Dallas Probate Court.

Sarah: "Where did you get this? My brother told me the probate court closed the file last week."

Marcus: "Your brother Richard bribed the original executor to hide your father's true last will and testament."

Sarah: "What? No... Richard wouldn't do that to us. He's my brother!"

Marcus: "He did it, ma'am. He drafted a fake document claiming your father left the entire real estate firm and the multi-million dollar trust fund solely to him."

Sarah: "My father loved Lily! He promised her college would be fully paid for before he passed away!"

Marcus: "Your father knew Richard was greedy. That's why he gave the real original copy of his will to my father, his private investigator, thirty years ago."

Sarah opened the seal with trembling fingers, pulling out several thick parchment pages filled with legal seals and notary stamps.

Sarah: "This... this leaves fifty percent of the entire estate to Lily! The house, the stocks, the whole family trust fund!"

Marcus: "It also explicitly revokes Richard's power of attorney if he ever attempted to hide the assets from you."

Sarah: "I can pay off the mortgage foreclosure notice! We don't have to pack our bags!"

Lily: "We get to stay in our house, Mom?"

Sarah: "Yes, baby! We get to stay home!"

Marcus: "There's a problem though, Mrs. Miller. The emergency hearing to finalize Richard's claim is happening at the courthouse downtown in forty minutes."

Sarah: "Forty minutes? But my car is in the repair shop today!"

Marcus: "Then we have to figure out how to get you to that courtroom before your brother signs the final transfer deed."

Sarah: "If he signs it, he takes full ownership of the estate!"

Marcus: "Then we aren't going to let him sign it."
