Mark stared down at Brenda with absolute fury in his dark eyes.
Mark: You do not ever talk to my daughter like that again.
Brenda: This is my mother's house and I will speak however I want!
Mark: You have crossed the line for the very last time today.
Sarah took a step back toward the hallway while rocking little Lily back and forth.
The toddler sobbed quietly into Sarah's shoulder, terrified by the loud voices.
Grandmother stepped forward from the kitchen with trembling hands.
Grandmother: Please, both of you stop this fighting on Christmas Day!
Brenda: Tell your son to stop disrespecting me in front of everyone!
Mark: Disrespect is coming entirely from you, Brenda, and it ends right now.
Brenda took a step closer to Mark with her face red from anger.
Brenda: You think you are better than everyone else since you moved away!
Mark: I moved away to get away from your endless drama and toxicity.
Brenda: If you do not like it here, you can take your family and leave!
Mark did not hesitate for even a single second.
He turned his back on Brenda and walked straight toward Sarah and Lily.
Mark: That is exactly what we are going to do.
Sarah looked at Mark with tears streaming down her pale cheeks.
She could see the absolute determination in her husband's firm expression.
They had tried for years to keep the peace during family holidays.
Today was the final straw for their small family unit.
