Two police officers walked into the sunlit foyer, their boots clicking firmly on marble.
Mark pointed directly at Chloe, who was standing frozen near the grand chandelier.
"Officer, this woman harassed and physically intimidated a resident of this home," Mark stated clearly.
The officers reviewed the security video footage on Mark's phone without delay.
They nodded solemnly, recognizing the clear evidence of unlawful conduct and harassment.
One officer stepped forward and instructed Chloe to place her hands behind her back.
"You cannot do this to me! Do you know who I am?" Chloe shrieked hysterically.
The handcuffs clicked loudly in the quiet, bright hallway as they restrained her wrists.
Her bright red dress looked out of place as she was led toward the front exit.
She looked back at Mark, pleading with her eyes for him to intervene and stop them.
Mark turned his back on her completely, refusing to offer a single word of comfort.
Chloe was escorted out the front doors into the bright Texas sunlight in total disgrace.
The heavy wooden front doors closed behind her, restoring peace to the grand home.
Mark walked over to Evelyn and gently knelt down beside her once again.
"I am so deeply sorry I was not here to protect you sooner, Evelyn," Mark said softly.
Evelyn smiled weakly, wiping a final tear from her soft, wrinkled cheek.
"You came back when it mattered most, young master Mark," Evelyn replied quietly.
Mark took her small, bruised hand gently into his own strong hands with deep respect.
