Justice on the Ocean

My Wife Locked My Mother Away For Our Big Inheritance

Within twenty minutes, the deep sound of heavy helicopter blades echoed through the sky above the yacht. Damian stood on the open rear deck with his arm wrapped securely around his mother's shoulders as a white Coast Guard cutter cut through the water, pulling alongside the large yacht. Blue and red lights flashed against the bright white paint of the patrol vessel as armed officers prepared to board.

Victoria stood near the dining table inside, staring at her legal papers with shaking hands as two uniform officers stepped through the glass doors of the main salon.

Coast Guard Officer: Who is the master of this vessel?

Damian: I am Damian Vance, officer. My wife locked my mother in the lower engine chamber to force her into signing over her estate and property rights under physical distress.

Victoria: That is a complete lie! It was an accident! She got locked in by a sliding door system while looking at equipment!

Evelyn: She put the security lock bar across the outer door frame herself, officer. She told me I would stay in that hot room until I signed her papers.

The lead officer stepped toward Victoria and pulled a pair of steel handcuffs from his utility belt, holding his hand out firmly.

Coast Guard Officer: Ma'am, set the papers down on the table and put your hands behind your back right now.

Victoria: You cannot touch me! Do you know who my family lawyer is? My husband will pay for this mistake!

Damian: The only thing I am paying for is my mother's medical care and the top divorce attorney in the state of Florida.

The officer secured the metal cuffs around Victoria's wrists while her guests watched in total shock from the far corner of the room. She was escorted down the gangway toward the waiting patrol boat, screaming threats and insults until the heavy door of the official vessel closed behind her.

Damian turned back to his mother, pulling a warm blanket over her shoulders as the yacht's crew brought her a glass of fresh water. The boat started its engines again, turning slowly back toward the safety of the harbor lights under the sunny afternoon sky.

Evelyn: Thank you for believing in me, Damian. I was so afraid you would take her side when she offered her excuses.

Damian: I will always choose truth and family over money and lies, Mom. No amount of wealth is worth keeping a snake in our home.

Evelyn smiled softly, holding her son's hand tight as the boat glided smoothly over the ocean waves toward a safe shore.
