The Wine Glass Splashed Red

My Millionaire Husband Hurled Wine Until I Took His Estate

The crystal chandelier in the grand dining room cast a bright light over the dinner party. Wealthy guests from all over Dallas were laughing and drinking expensive champagne. Sarah stood near the head of the table, wearing a simple silk dress that felt far too tight around her chest. She adjusted her small silver bracelet, trying hard to smile while her mother-in-law, Evelyn, spoke down to her.

Evelyn: Carter, darling, your wife clearly does not know which fork to use for the second course.

Carter: Mother is right, Sarah. Try to pay attention so you do not embarrass us tonight.

Sarah: I know how to eat dinner, Carter. Please stop picking on every little thing I do.

Evelyn: Oh, listen to her tone! My son brought you out of poverty, and this is how you repay our kindness?

Sarah: My father was a good man who worked hard, Evelyn. Do not speak about my family that way.

Carter set his fork down with a loud clang against the expensive porcelain plate. His face turned bright red with sudden rage. He stood up from his chair, his tall frame looming over the long table. The other guests stopped talking immediately, the room falling dead silent.

Carter: You do not speak to my mother like that in this house, Sarah!

Sarah: I am tired of being humiliated every single day, Carter!

Without another word, Carter grabbed his heavy crystal glass filled with dark red wine. He swung his arm back and hurled the liquid straight across the table. The deep red wine splashed directly onto Evelyn's elegant black dress, soaking through the expensive fabric instantly. Evelyn screamed in absolute shock, clutching her chest as red drops dripped down her arms.

Evelyn: My gown! Look at what you made him do, you stupid girl!

Carter: Get out of my sight right now before I lose my mind completely!

Sarah did not run away or burst into tears this time. She turned around with a cold, fierce look in her eyes. Her posture straightened as she stared directly at her husband's angry face. Carter stepped toward her, raising his hand in a harsh threat, but Sarah held up her left palm firmly.

Sarah: TOUCH ME AGAIN, AND YOU LOSE EVERYTHING.

The room went so quiet that you could hear the soft hum of the air conditioner. Carter froze in his tracks, his eyes widening slightly at the unexpected authority in her voice. He had never seen his wife stand her ground like this before. Sarah turned on her heel and walked out of the room calmly, leaving the stunned guests staring at the red stains on the white tablecloth.
