With the heavy doors finally closed and the grand hallway quiet once again, the heavy atmosphere inside the mansion seemed to clear completely. Brandon turned to Hannah, his eyes full of soft concern as he checked her face for any injuries. The red liquid was still drying on her blonde hair and white dress, but the fear that had consumed her just thirty minutes ago was completely gone, replaced by a quiet sense of safety and peace.
"Are you alright?" Brandon asked softly, brushing a loose wet strand of hair away from her face. "I am so sorry you had to go through that tonight. I should have been here earlier to protect you from her."
Hannah shook her head gentle, giving him a warm, small smile despite the mess. "You don't have to apologize for anything, Brandon. You stood up for me when no one else ever has. You showed me that you care about who I am, not what people say about me or where I come from."
"I love you, Hannah," Brandon said clearly, holding both of her hands tightly in his own. "My stepmother was right about one thing: this house is built on money and power. But she was wrong about everything else. This estate means nothing to me if I can't share it with someone who is honest, genuine, and kind. I don't care about social status or family expectations anymore. You are the person I want in my life."
Hannah felt a tear roll down her cheek, but this time it was a tear of pure happiness. "I love you too, Brandon. So much."
Brandon smiled, pulling her into a warm embrace, completely ignoring the red stains that transferred onto his jacket. After holding her close for a long moment, he stepped back and looked down at his dirty suit with a soft laugh, shaking his head at the mess left behind on the checkered floor.
"Come on," Brandon said warmly, taking her hand gently as he guided her toward the broad carpeted staircase leading to the upper floors. "Let's get you cleaned up, find you some dry clothes, and then we will leave this place. We can go to that quiet little dinner spot downtown that you've always liked, just the two of us, without any grand expectations, corporate politics, or fake gold dresses."
Hannah laughed softly, wiping the last wet tear from her eye as she walked beside him up the stairs. She looked back one last time at the grand hall below, seeing the empty pitcher and the blinking red light on the ceiling. The mansion was still huge and impressive, but it no longer felt like a prison run by a cruel woman. Justice had finally been served in the most unexpected way, and as she walked hand-in-hand with Brandon toward their future, she knew that truth and genuine love would always triumph over money, cruelty, and deceit.
