The heavy wooden double doors slammed wide open, striking the solid walls with a loud crash that echoed throughout the whole house. Brandon stepped into the grand hall, his tall frame filling the doorway as he paused to take in the shocking scene before him. He wore a sharp grey three-piece suit, tailored perfectly for his role as the executive director of the family firm. He had rushed straight from a high-level board meeting regarding his family estate to host this important dinner. His hands were clenched tightly into fists at his sides, his knuckles turning white under the bright hallway lights. His breathing was heavy, his face filled with immediate confusion and rising concern as his eyes locked onto the floor. He saw the thick red liquid covering the checkered marble, spreading quickly toward the baseboards, and then he saw Hannah kneeling in the center of it all.
Margarethe did not hesitate for a single second. She threw her hands into the air, spreading her arms wide with a look of frantic, calculated alarm. Her golden sequin dress shimmered brightly as she spun around to face Brandon, her voice echoing loudly through the tall space.
"Brandon, thank goodness you are home!" Margarethe cried out, her voice loud, shrill, and filled with fake panic. "Look what she did to herself! She lost her mind completely! I tried to talk to her nicely, but she grabbed the pitcher and poured it all over her own head just to make me look terrible! She is completely unstable, Brandon!"
Brandon stared at his stepmother, his jaw tight as he listened to her loud claims. He took a slow, heavy step forward, his expensive shoes crunching slightly against a drop of liquid on the marble. He looked down at Hannah, whose shoulders were shaking violently as she wept silently on the floor. The sight of the gentle blonde woman covered in dark liquid made his blood boil. He knew Hannah's quiet nature, and he knew how hard she had worked just to build up the courage to meet his high-society family tonight. He had warned her about his stepmother's manipulative ways, but he had never imagined Margarethe would resort to such public, vicious cruelty inside his own home.
"Is this really what you want me to believe, Margarethe?" Brandon asked, his voice dangerously low as he stepped deeper into the grand room.
"It is the absolute truth, Brandon!" Margarethe insisted, taking a quick step toward him while pointing a manicured finger at Hannah. "She was nervous about meeting the family, so she threw a total fit! She wanted to frame me so you would give her a bigger settlement or force me out of the family business! You must call the security team and have her thrown off the property right now before she destroys anything else!"
Hannah looked up through her wet, stained blonde hair, her blue eyes wide with pain and disbelief. "Brandon, please... that isn't what happened at all," she whispered, her voice cracking under the emotional weight of the lie. "I didn't touch the pitcher. She did this to me."
"Quiet, you lying little nobody!" Margarethe barked, her eyes flashing with pure hatred as she turned her body toward the weeping girl. "You don't get to speak in this house! Brandon, listen to your family for once! She is a gold-digger, a liar, and she is trying to destroy our reputation!"
Brandon took two quick steps forward, closing the distance between them. The air in the hallway seemed to drop in temperature as his fury reached its boiling point. His face contorted in intense, uncontrollable anger as he looked directly into Margarethe's eyes, realizing just how deep her cruelty ran.
"Enough of this!" Brandon roared, his voice echoing off the high ceilings like thunder.
