The soft music playing throughout the grand sunroom was barely enough to drown out the chatter of wealthy guests attending five-year-old Lily’s birthday party. Fair-skinned with bouncy curly blonde hair, Lily stood near the edge of the polished mahogany table, holding a small white paper plate. Cake was already smeared around her lips, and her cheeks were flushed with excitement.
Lily: Look, Clara! I got the pink flower slice!
Clara: You sure did, sweetie. Eat it carefully so you don’t get frosting on your new yellow dress.
Standing nearby, watching with a cold, unsatisfied glare, was Evelyn. Dressed in an immaculate white designer dress, the blonde woman swirled her champagne glass with an air of absolute authority over the entire Dallas estate.
Evelyn: She’s getting crumbs on the carpet, Clara. Take that plate away from her before she ruins the whole party setup.
Clara: Miss Evelyn, it’s her birthday. Mr. Marcus said she could have her cake before the family announcement.
Evelyn: I don’t care what Marcus said. This entire gala is supposed to celebrate our upcoming wedding, not a toddler’s messy eating habits.
Lily shrank back, holding her paper plate tighter against her chest as Evelyn took three deliberate steps toward her. Before Clara could step in, Evelyn reached out and snatched the white plate straight out of Lily’s hands, smashing it forceful onto the child's head.
Lily: OW!
Thick pink frosting instantly covered the top of Lily's golden curls and smeared down her forehead, filling her eyes with sugary cream. The sudden impact sent the little girl stumbling backward, tears immediately welling up in her wide eyes.
Lily: Why... why did you do that?!
Evelyn: Oops. You looked like you wanted more frosting, little girl.
Clara: Miss Evelyn, stop it! That’s a child!
Evelyn sneered, grabbing a clump of Lily’s hair with the paper plate still stuck on top, roughly pushing her face down toward the grand three-tiered decorated birthday cake on the table.
Lily: AHHH! You ruined my cake! Let me go!
Evelyn: You don't get to yell at me in my future house!
Lily cried hysterically as frosting completely covered her features, her small feet kicking uselessly against the hardwood floor. Suddenly, the front double doors of the luxury mansion burst open with a heavy bang. Marcus, wearing a sharp black suit and blue shirt, charged into the sunroom after hearing his daughter’s screams, his face instantly twisting into pure rage at the horror unfolding before him.
