Edgar: You bought a lethal snake... You brought a lethal snake into my house!
Evelyn: Edgar, please! I was protecting you! She was going to ruin your life!
Edgar: You tried to murder my wife in cold blood!
Evelyn: It wouldn't have looked like murder! The police would have thought it was a freak accident! An escaped exotic pet from the neighborhood!
Edgar: You planned this out?! You actually sat down and planned how to murder Chloe?!
Chloe: She didn't just plan it today, Edgar[cite: 1]. Remember last month when my brake lines magically leaked in the driveway[cite: 1]?
Edgar: What?! The mechanic said that was a rusted valve!
Chloe: Ask your mother who paid the mechanic fifty thousand dollars in cash two days after the incident[cite: 1].
Evelyn: You've been spying on my bank accounts?!
Chloe: As the chief financial officer of Edgar's company, I have access to all family trust payouts, Evelyn[cite: 1]. Did you really think I wouldn't notice fifty grand missing from the maintenance ledger[cite: 1]?
Evelyn: You little witch! You've been setting me up this whole time!
Chloe: No, Evelyn[cite: 1]. You set yourself up the moment you let your greed consume your soul[cite: 1].
With a sudden, violent motion, the venomous snake struck from under the bed sheets, its dark head bursting through the satin fabric with an aggressive, loud hiss[cite: 1]. Evelyn shrieked in absolute terror, staggering backward toward the hallway railing as the snake slithered rapidly off the edge of the mattress, landing right onto the hardwood floor with a heavy thump[cite: 1].
Evelyn: Ahhh! Get it away from me! Get it away!
Edgar: Move back, Chloe! Get behind me!
The deadly viper coiled on the floor, its triangular head raised, eyes locked straight onto Evelyn’s trembling purple robe[cite: 1]. It hissed loudly, its tongue flicking out as it slid across the smooth floor toward her heels[cite: 1].
Evelyn: Edgar, hit it! Kill it with the golf club! Kill it!
Edgar: I'm not getting near that thing, Mom! You brought it here, you deal with it!
Evelyn: Edgar, help me! It's coming right for my feet!
Evelyn backed up frantically, her high heels catching on the edge of the thick hallway runner rug[cite: 1]. She lost her balance, her arms flailing wildly as she tumbled backward, landing hard on her hip against the wall right next to the black canvas bag she had left near the floorboards[cite: 1].
Evelyn: Somebody call 911! Help me!
Chloe: Oh, don't worry, Evelyn[cite: 1]. I already called the police five minutes ago, right before Edgar came upstairs[cite: 1].
Evelyn: You what?!
Chloe: I recorded your entire little speech through the door crack on my phone[cite: 1]. The police dispatcher heard every single word about the twenty-five million dollars[cite: 1].
Loud, screeching tires echoed from the driveway outside, followed by the sudden, flashing red and blue lights reflecting through the grand stained-glass windows of the staircase[cite: 1].
Edgar: The police are here.
Evelyn: Edgar, no! You can't let them arrest your own mother! Tell them it was a mistake! Tell them we were joking!
Edgar: You tried to kill my wife, Mom[cite: 1]. There are no mistakes here anymore[cite: 1].
