The Threat at the Mansion

Her Rich Stepmother Tried To Take Her Son Away

The shattered pieces of ceramic lay scattered across the wet marble floor between them.

Arthur glared at Victoria while clutching his silver cane with white knuckles.

Grandfather Arthur: You have lost your mind, Victoria.

Victoria: I have finally found my courage to stand against you.

Eleanor stepped behind Arthur, trying to hide her growing fear behind a scowl.

Eleanor: She threatened us in our own home, Arthur!

Victoria: This home was built on my father's life insurance payout!

Leo huddled near the towel rack, watching his mother stand up to his family.

Victoria reached down and took her son's hand into her warm grip.

Victoria: We are leaving this place right now, Leo.

Grandfather Arthur: You step out that door, and you lose your inheritance!

Victoria stopped at the grand archway and turned around slowly to face them.

Victoria: Keep your blood money if it makes you feel powerful.

Eleanor: You will be living on the street within a month!

Victoria: I would rather live anywhere else than stay under your control.

She led Leo down the long hallway toward the high front doors of the mansion.

The grand estate seemed dark and cold despite the bright crystal chandeliers above them.

Victoria pulled her small key fob from her jacket pocket as they reached the driveway.

Her compact car sat parked right beside Eleanor's brand new luxury sports sedan.

She opened the passenger door and helped Leo buckle into his booster seat safely.

Leo: Are we ever coming back here, Mom?

Victoria: Never again, my sweet boy.

She closed his door softly and walked around to the driver side of her car.

Before she could get inside, the heavy oak front doors flew open again.

Arthur walked out onto the stone porch, supported by his personal security guard.

Grandfather Arthur: Hand over the boy's passport before you drive away!

Victoria: His legal documents stay with his legal mother, Arthur!

Eleanor: The family lawyers will have full custody papers signed by morning!

Victoria: Let your high priced lawyers try their best in court.

She climbed inside her car and locked all the doors with a swift button press.

The engine started with a steady roar as she shifted the gear lever into reverse.

She backed out of the long driveway while watching Arthur shake his fist in anger.

Leo looked out the rear window as the huge gates closed slowly behind them.

Leo: I was scared near the pool, Mom.

Victoria: I will never let anyone hurt you again, Leo.

She drove down the winding mountain road away from the high walls of the estate.

Her wet clothes felt heavy and cold against her skin as she drove into town.

She knew the real battle for her family's freedom had only just begun today.
