The Reckoning Of The Vultures

Her Husband Claimed She Slipped Until Her Father Saw The Bruise

The female military medic rushed to Claire's side, opening a medical kit and checking her pulse.

Medic: "Ma'am, stay still. We have an ambulance waiting downstairs to take you to the base hospital."

Claire: "Is my baby okay? Please check the baby!"

Medic: "Heartbeat is steady, ma'am. Strong and steady. We'll get an ultrasound done right away."

Claire let out a long, shaky breath, tears of relief falling onto her white nightgown.

Claire: "Thank God... thank God."

Meanwhile, Agent Miller placed heavy steel handcuffs on Grant’s wrists, pulling him up from the floor.

Grant: "Get your hands off me! I'm a senior partner at Vance & Sterling Wealth Management!"

FBI Agent Miller: "Not anymore, Mr. Sterling. You have the right to remain silent."

Evelyn: "Agent, please! This is a simple marital dispute! It's an argument that got out of hand!"

FBI Agent Miller: "Ma'am, we have wiretap recordings of your son discussing how to liquidate his wife's trust fund after her 'accidental' injury."

Claire gasped, looking at Grant in utter horror.

Claire: "You... you were planning to kill me?"

Grant: "Claire, no! They're twisting my words! I would never!"

Marcus: "Shut up, Grant! You are a cold-blooded sociopath!"

Agent Miller pushed Grant toward the bedroom door, where another agent was cuffing Evelyn.

Evelyn: "Marcus, please! Talk to the prosecutor! We can transfer all the money back to Claire! Every single cent!"

Marcus: "You can keep your money, Evelyn. You're going to need it for your defense lawyers."

Grant: "Claire! Tell them to stop! You love me! Remember our wedding in Maui?!"

Claire looked Grant dead in the eye, her voice remarkably steady despite her physical pain.

Claire: "The man I married died the day you put your hands on me, Grant. You are a stranger."

Grant: "You'll regret this! When I get out, you won't get a penny of alimony!"

Marcus: "He still thinks about money while facing twenty years in federal prison."

The agents led Grant and Evelyn down the wide marble hallway, their angry shouts fading as they reached the front entrance.

Marcus turned back to his daughter, kneeling beside her bed once again.

Marcus: "It's over, Claire. They can't ever hurt you again."

Claire: "Papa... I was so scared. I thought he was going to take my baby away."

Marcus: "Nobody takes anything from my family. Ever."

The medic finished setting up a portable stretcher beside the bed.

Medic: "General, we're ready to transport her to Walter Reed Medical Center."

Marcus: "I'm coming with you in the ambulance."

Claire: "Papa, what about my things? My mother's jewelry... her letters?"

Marcus: "My men are packing up every single item in this house that belongs to you right now. You are never stepping foot in this place again."

Claire smiled faintly through her tears, reaching out to touch her father's dress uniform shoulder.

Claire: "Thank you for coming for me."

Marcus: "I will always come for you, Claire. That is my solemn promise as your father."
