The Photo On The Marble

Evelyn: Clara, have you completely lost your mind?! Get off the floor right now!

Clara: Shut up, Evelyn! Just shut your mouth!

Evelyn: You are staining your custom wedding gown on this dirty floor over a common housemaid!

Clara: She isn't a housemaid, you monster! She's my biological sister!

Maya buried her face into Clara's silk bridal veil, her entire body shaking with heavy sobs.

Maya: I thought I'd never see you again, Emma... I thought you forgot about me!

Clara: I never forgot you! They told me you died in the foster care system twelve years ago!

Evelyn: Clara, this girl is lying to you! She's trying to scam money out of our family on your wedding day!

Clara stood up slowly, keeping one arm wrapped tightly around Maya's waist while holding the Polaroid with her other hand.

Clara: She isn't lying! Look at this picture, Evelyn! This is the exact photo my birth father took before he passed away!

Evelyn: Lots of kids have old pictures! That doesn't prove anything!

Clara: The birthmark on her right wrist matches mine! The name 'Emma' written on the back in my mother's handwriting matches mine!

Maya: She made me work in the kitchen, Emma... She told me if I ever tried to talk to you, she'd fire me and put me on the street!

Clara: You hired my lost sister as a servant in your mansion?!

Evelyn: I didn't know who she was when I hired her from the agency! It was a complete coincidence!

Maya: That's a lie! She saw my birth certificate when I filled out my employment papers three months ago!

Clara: You knew?! You brought my sister into this house and made her scrub floors while I lived like a princess?!

Evelyn: I did it to protect you, Clara! You were about to marry into a prominent Dallas family! A maid sister would have ruined your social standing!

Clara: You didn't do it to protect me! You did it to control my father's inheritance!

Evelyn: Watch your tone with me! I am your stepmother, and I managed your father's estate after he died!

Clara: You lied to me for twelve years! You told me my entire birth family was gone so you could keep every single dime of the trust fund for yourself!

Maya: She took my inheritance too, Emma... Dad left half the estate to me in his original will!

Evelyn: Be quiet, you ungrateful little brat!

Evelyn raised her hand, stepping toward Maya with a furious look in her eyes, but Clara stepped directly in front of her.

Clara: Lay one finger on her and I swear to God you will leave this mansion in handcuffs!

Evelyn: You wouldn't dare ruin your own wedding day, Clara! The mayor is sitting in the front row!

Clara: Watch me.

Clara reached behind her back, unhooking her diamond encrusted wedding veil and tossing it onto the floor right over the puddle of water.

Clara: The wedding is canceled.

Evelyn: What?! You can't cancel a two-hundred-thousand-dollar wedding over this!

Clara: I'm not marrying your snobbish nephew, and I am not letting you steal another day of our lives!

Maya: Emma, please don't ruin your big day because of me...

Clara: Maya, you are the only real family I have left. This wedding was Evelyn's idea, not mine.

Evelyn: You are throwing away your future, Clara! My family controls the Vance investment firm!

Clara: And my biological father built the foundation of that firm! It's time for an audit, Evelyn.

Clara grabbed Maya's hand, holding it tight as they turned toward the double glass doors leading to the grand driveway.

Evelyn: Where do you think you're going?!

Clara: To call my estate lawyer and the Texas police.
