By two o'clock that afternoon, dark rain clouds rolled over the Dallas estate, replacing the bright morning sun with a heavy gray sky. Inside the mansion's oak-paneled study, Julian sat behind his massive mahogany desk, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. Sitting across from him were Arthur Vance, his chief legal advisor, and Detective Miller from the Dallas Police Department.
Victoria sat on a leather sofa near the corner, handcuffed at the wrists, her royal blue gown rumpled and messy. Her father, billionaire real estate tycoon Harold Cole, paced furiously back and forth near the bookshelf.
Harold: "This is an absolute farce! Julian, you are making a massive mistake! My daughter is a gentle woman from a prestigious family! She would never abuse a toddler!"
Julian: "Save your speech for the press, Harold. Your daughter is a monster."
Victoria: "Dad! Tell him! The maid is the one who injured Leo! She dropped him on the marble floor and I tried to pull him away from her!"
Arthur Vance: "Miss Cole, lying to a law enforcement officer carries additional felony charges in the state of Texas."
Victoria: "I'm not lying! It's my word against a low-wage servant's word! Who is a judge going to believe?!"
Julian: "They aren't going to have to rely on anyone's word, Victoria."
Julian reached into his desk drawer, pulling out a sleek black flash drive and sliding it across the polished mahogany surface toward Detective Miller.
Detective Miller: "What's on this drive, Mr. Sterling?"
Julian: "Three weeks ago, after I noticed small bruises on Leo's arms, I had a private security firm install hidden, high-definition motion cameras behind every single American flag frame in this mansion."
Victoria's breath hitched instantly. Her pale face turned ghostly white as her father stopped pacing in mid-step.
Victoria: "Hidden... hidden cameras?"
Julian: "Every room, Victoria. The living room, the nursery hallway, and the main foyer."
Detective Miller plugged the drive into his portable laptop on the desk. A few clicks echoed in the quiet room before a sharp video feed appeared on the screen, showing crisp 4K footage of the foyer from earlier that morning.
Detective Miller: "Let's see what we have here."
The audio played clearly through the laptop speakers. The audio captured Victoria screaming at the little boy, grabbing his arm violently, and dragging him across the floor while he cried hysterically. It showed Sarah running in to rescue him, picking him up, and Victoria delivering a sharp, vicious slap across Sarah's face.
Harold: "My God..."
Detective Miller: "That is crystal clear evidence of felony child endangerment, injury to a child, and aggravated assault, Miss Cole."
Victoria: "Julian... please... I was stressed! I've been taking medication! The pressure of being a mother was too much!"
Julian: "You aren't his mother, Victoria. You were my wife for eight months, and you spent six of them torturing my son while I was at the office."
Arthur Vance: "Detective, based on this unedited video footage, we are requesting immediate formal charges and no bail."
Detective Miller: "Officer! Take Miss Cole out to the transport vehicle. She's being booked at the central precinct immediately."
Two uniformed police officers stepped inside the study, grabbing Victoria by her shoulders and pulling her off the leather sofa.
Victoria: "Dad! Do something! Call our lawyers! Pay the bail!"
Harold: "Shut up, Victoria! You ruined our family's name! Do you have any idea what this video is going to do to our company's stock value?!"
Victoria: "You only care about your stock value?! I'm your daughter!"
Harold: "You're an embarrassment! I'm removing you as a beneficiary from my estate today!"
Victoria began weeping hysterically as the officers escorted her out of the study, her expensive heels clicking pathetically against the wooden floor until the heavy doors clicked shut behind her.
