Sean moved back down to the iron cell door and stared deeply into his father's eyes.
Sean: What do you mean by fraudulent legal documents, Dad?
Arthur: She brought a corrupt notary down here to force us to sign a power of attorney.
Eleanor: She threatened to take away our family home and sell all the land.
Sean felt a dark flame of absolute outrage burning deep inside his chest.
He turned around sharply and marched straight up the stone stairs toward Clara.
Clara tried to back away toward the hallway door, but Sean blocked her escape path.
Sean: Hand over your bag and the keys right this instant, Clara!
Clara: You have no right to touch my personal belongings, cousin!
Sean reached out and grabbed the strap of the leather bag hanging from her shoulder.
Clara pulled back wildly, but Sean managed to snatch the bag away from her.
He unzipped the main compartment and emptied the contents onto the hallway floor.
A thick silver key ring fell onto the wooden floor with a loud metallic clatter.
Along with the keys, several folded legal documents scattered across the hardwood floorboards.
Sean picked up the documents and scanned the bold headers print printed at the top.
It was a fake deed transfer transferring the entire multi-million dollar estate to Clara's company.
It also contained forged signature pages attempting to dissolve the existing family trust fund.
Sean: You were trying to steal everything my parents worked their entire lives for!
Clara: My father helped build that family company forty years ago and got nothing!
Sean: My father paid your father a full legal settlement when he retired!
Clara: It was never enough to cover what our side of the family deserved!
Sean grabbed the silver key ring from the floor and held it firmly in his hand.
Sean: You belong in a state prison for what you have done here today.
Clara: Nobody will ever believe your word over my clean corporate legal record!
Sean held up his smartphone, showing that he had been recording their entire conversation.
Clara's eyes widened in absolute horror as she realized she had confessed on audio.
Sean: Stay right where you are while I free my parents from that cell.
He turned on his heel and hurried back down the stone steps into the cold basement.
He tried the largest key on the silver ring inside the heavy iron padlock.
The lock clicked loudly, and the heavy iron bolt slid back with a rusty scrape.
Sean pulled the heavy cell door wide open and stepped inside the dark space.
He wrapped his strong arms tightly around both of his trembling parents at once.
Eleanor: Oh my brave boy, thank God you came home early today!
Arthur: We knew you would protect this family no matter what happened, son.
Sean: Let us get you both upstairs into the warm sunlight right now.
Sean helped his weak parents walk slowly out of the dark stone cell.
They climbed the stone stairs together while Clara watched them from the end of the hallway.
