David felt his entire body go cold as those words hung heavy in the quiet air.
He grabbed her tiny, warm hand and held it gently against his wet cheek.
This was Maya, his eldest daughter who had vanished three years ago during a park outing.
Everyone had believed Maya was lost forever after months of police searches yielded no answers.
David had grieved for years, eventually marrying Helen to help care for young Lily.
Now, his lost daughter was standing right in front of him inside his own house.
David: Maya? Is that really you, my sweet baby girl?
Maya: I missed you so much, Daddy.
David: How... how have you been in this house all this time?
Maya: The lady locked me down here so I would stay quiet.
David looked up slowly from the floor, his eyes burning with intense anger and betrayal.
Helen stood near the stairs, taking slow steps backward toward the front exit door.
David: You knew she was here this whole time, didn't you, Helen?
Helen: David, please listen to me, it isn't what you think!
David: You hid my missing daughter under the floorboards of my own house!
Helen: I was trying to protect our family's future, David!
David: Protect us? By locking an innocent child in a dark crawlspace?
Helen: If she came back, everything would have changed with the trust fund estate!
David stood up quickly, carefully lifting Maya up out of the dusty wooden opening.
He held the frail young girl tightly in his arms, wrapping his jacket around her.
Lily watched with wide eyes, holding her plate of sandwiches close to her chest.
Lily: Is she my big sister, Daddy?
David: Yes, sweetie, this is your sister Maya who was lost.
Lily: I am glad she is out of the hole now.
Helen pulled out her purse from the hall table and began searching for her keys.
Helen: David, we can talk about this like rational adults before calling anyone.
David: Don't you dare move a single step toward that front door, Helen.
Helen: You don't understand how complicated the legal papers are for the family trust!
David: I don't care about money or legal papers right now!
David pulled his phone out and quickly dialed nine-one-one on the keypad screen.
Helen panicked when she saw the numbers dialed and made a sudden rush for the door.
David blocked her path with his body while keeping Maya safely behind his suit jacket.
David: You are not leaving this house tonight, Helen.
Helen: Let me go, David, or you will regret this choice forever!
David: The police are on their way right now to end this nightmare.
