The Secret In The Safe

He Caught His Wife Burning Their Adopted Daughter In The Bathroom

David: "Sit down on that chair, Victoria. Do not move a muscle."

Victoria: "David, please... let's talk about this rationally. We can fix this!"

David: "There is nothing to talk about. The police are already on their way."

Victoria: "You called the police on your own wife?!"

David: "I pressed the emergency panic button on my phone the moment I saw that burn on Lily's arm."

Victoria's face turned completely white. She lunged forward, trying to grab David's sleeve, but he pushed her hand away with total disgust.

Victoria: "If you ruin my reputation, my father will pull all funding from your Dallas commercial real estate project! You'll be bankrupt by next month!"

David: "I would rather lose every single dollar I own than stay married to a woman who abuses children."

Lily: "Daddy... look..."

Lily pointed her tiny finger toward the bottom shelf of Victoria's vanity cabinet, where a small velvet pouch sat hidden behind expensive makeup bottles.

David: "What is that, Lily?"

Lily: "She took Mommy's necklace... the one with the brass key..."

David stepped over, reaching into the cabinet and pulling out the black velvet pouch. He unzipped it, revealing a heavy silver locket attached to a small brass key—the exact key to his late brother's bank vault in downtown Dallas.

David: "You already found the key! You had it the entire time!"

Victoria: "I... I found it in her closet this morning!"

David: "You had the key, yet you still dragged Lily into this room and threatened her with a lighter?!"

Victoria: "I wanted to make sure she didn't tell you I took it! I wanted to scare her into silence!"

David: "You didn't just want the money. You wanted to terrorize a defenceless child because you hated that my brother loved her more than he ever respected you!"

Victoria: "Your brother was a fool! He left everything to her, leaving me with nothing from the family estate!"

David: "You married me for the Sterling fortune, didn't you?"

Victoria: "Of course I did! Did you really think I loved a workaholic real estate developer?!"

David stared at her, the final pieces of her cruel deception crashing down around him. The sirens began to wail in the distance, echoing up the long private driveway toward the front gates of the mansion.

David: "Hear that? That's the end of your comfortable life, Victoria."
