By nine o'clock the next morning, the news hit newspapers.
Headlines accused Diego's company of major financial failure.
Gwen's father had pulled all funding from their joint projects.
Diego sat in his large home office reviewing corporate papers.
His family lawyer, Mr. Vance, sat across the desk.
Mr. Vance: Gwen's family filed an emergency injunction against you.
Diego: On what legal grounds can they stop me?
Mr. Vance: They claim you breached the prenuptial agreement terms.
Diego: We never signed the final prenuptial papers anyway.
Mr. Vance adjusted his glasses and leaned over the table.
Mr. Vance: That is true, but your mother signed an agreement.
Diego leaned back in his leather chair with surprise.
Diego: What agreement did my mother sign with them?
Mr. Vance: She used your estate inheritance as financial collateral.
Diego slammed his hand down onto the wooden desk hard.
Diego: She had no legal right to use my inheritance!
Suddenly the office door opened without anyone knocking first.
Sarah walked into the room holding a thick manila folder.
Sarah: Diego, you need to look at these old papers.
Diego looked up from his legal documents in confusion.
Diego: What papers are those, Sarah?
Sarah placed the thick folder onto the center of the desk.
Sarah: My late father was your father's business partner.
Diego stared at Sarah with total shock on his face.
Diego: What are you talking about, Sarah?
Sarah: My father co-founded the original real estate firm.
Sarah: When he died, your mother hid his company shares.
Mr. Vance quickly opened the manila folder on the desk.
He scanned through the old yellowed legal documents carefully.
Mr. Vance: These are original stock certificate shares from thirty years ago.
Diego: Are you telling me Sarah owns company shares?
Mr. Vance: She owns forty percent of the entire parent company.
Diego looked up at Sarah with complete admiration in his eyes.
Diego: You held onto these papers all these years?
Sarah: I was too afraid of your mother's legal team.
Sarah: But now I have to protect Paulina's future.
Diego stood up from his chair and walked around the desk.
He took Sarah's hands gently into his own hands.
Diego: You just saved our family business from Gwen's father.
Sarah: We saved it together for our little girl.
The office door opened again as Victoria walked in fast.
Victoria looked at Sarah holding Diego's hands in shock.
Victoria: What is going on in my house right now?
Diego: It is not your house anymore, mother.
