Mark took a step closer, his brow furrows as he stared at the small screen in Hannah's hands. His groomsmen gathered tightly around his shoulders, their anger instantly turning into tense curiosity. The video was clear and high quality, showing the catering preparation area behind the main stage just ten minutes earlier. On the screen, a woman wearing a white lace bridal robe was standing near the tray of pre-filled champagne flutes meant for the groom's table.
The camera zoomed in close. The woman was Sarah. She was looking around nervously, checking to see if any kitchen staff were watching her. When she thought the hallway was empty, she pulled a small glass bottle from the pocket of her satin robe. Using a glass dropper, she squeezed three drops of a thick, greenish liquid directly into the glass marked with a small golden ribbon—the glass reserved specifically for Mark.
Mark stared at the screen, his chest rising and falling heavily as shock gripped his throat. He recognized the ruby ring on Sarah's finger instantly; it was a family heirloom he had given her on the night he proposed. He watched her gently stir the champagne with a long silver pin until the greenish liquid completely dissolved into the bubbles, leaving no trace behind.
Mark: No... this cannot be real. Is this some kind of sick joke?
Hannah: I recorded it from the hallway pantry, sir. I saw her do it with my own eyes.
Mark: Why would she do something like this? What was in that bottle?
Hannah: I don't know what the chemical was, but she was careful not to touch it with her bare skin. She wore clear latex gloves while holding the dropper.
Groomsman Eric: Mark, look at the glass on the floor. Look at what it is doing to the floor polish!
Mark dropped to his knees, his hands shaking violently as he looked at the white marble where the liquid had spilled. Where the champagne had pooled, the shiny clear-coat finish on the polished marble was starting to bubble and turn slightly dark. It was a potent substance, far too strong for any human stomach to endure. The realization hit Mark like a heavy physical blow to his chest.
If he had taken even one swallow of that champagne, his organs would have suffered terrible damage within minutes. He might have died right there in front of his family, looking like a sudden heart attack or sudden health failure before his vows could even begin.
Mark: YOU SAVED MY LIFE! CALL 911 RIGHT NOW!
Hannah: Sir, please stay quiet for a moment. If she hears noise, she will try to run away!
Mark: My God... my entire life... she was going to poison me on our wedding day!
Hannah: She has a car waiting at the back entrance, sir. I overheard her talking on her phone in the dressing room an hour ago.
