Mark stood up slowly and turned around to face his wife Sarah.
His voice shook with rising anger as he looked into Sarah's pale face.
Mark: Sarah, what is this child doing inside our walls?
Sarah: I don't know what she is talking about, Mark!
Mark: Do not lie to me right now!
Emily ran over to Lily and grabbed her hand with a sweet smile.
Emily: See, Daddy, I told you she was real.
Mark pulled his cell phone out of his jacket pocket with shaking hands.
He dialed the number of Chloe's mother who still lived in town.
The call connected on the second ring after a brief silence.
Mark: Mrs. Davis, it's Mark. Is Chloe alright?
Mrs. Davis: Mark, Chloe passed away in the hospital three days ago.
Mark dropped his head as a sharp pain filled his chest.
Mrs. Davis: She gave birth to your daughter six years ago and kept her safe.
Mrs. Davis: Sarah came to the hospital before Chloe died and took the child.
Mrs. Davis: Sarah promised she would bring Lily straight home to you.
Mark gripped his phone tight as he stared hard at Sarah across the room.
