The Cry On The Patio

A Poor Boy Asked For Help And Found His Lost Family

The bright sun shone brightly over the fancy Dallas restaurant patio on a warm Tuesday afternoon.

Wealthy businessmen in tailored suits sat at white marble tables enjoying their expensive steaks and wine.

A young boy named Leo ran onto the patio with torn shoes and dirty pants.

He held a crumpled photograph tightly in his small trembling hand.

Leo: Please help me, somebody!

Leo: My mom was taken by bad men!

The people at the tables ignored his desperate voice and kept eating their meals quietly.

Leo spotted a tall man wearing a gold watch at the center table.

The man was Richard Vance, a powerful real estate investor in the city.

Leo rushed toward Richard's table with tears streaming down his dusty cheeks.

Leo: Mister, please look at this picture!

Leo: My mom needs help right now!

Richard set down his silver fork and glared at the frightened child.

His face twisted into an expression of pure disgust and anger.

Richard slammed his palm hard against the marble table top.

Richard: Get away from my table!

Richard: You dirty street kid, do not come near me!

The loud bang made the surrounding restaurant guests freeze in shock.

Leo backed away two steps but held the photo out even higher.

Leo: Please, mister, my mom said you knew our family!

Leo: She said your name was Richard Vance!

Richard's face turned completely white when he heard those words spoken aloud.

He stood up quickly from his chair and pointed toward the front gate.

Richard: Security, get over here this instant!

Richard: Drag this lying little monster off the property!

Two heavy guards in black uniforms started moving quickly across the patio.

A woman sitting two tables away suddenly stood up from her chair.

Her name was Clara, a prominent lawyer who was dining with her colleagues.

Clara: Wait a second, hold on!

Clara: Do not touch that child!

Clara stepped directly between the giant security guards and small Leo.

She knelt down onto the clean white tiles so she was eye level with him.

Clara: Are you okay, sweetie?

Clara: What is your name?

Leo: My name is Leo, ma'am.

Leo: Men in black vans took my mom this morning from our cabin.

Clara took a deep breath and looked into the boy's clear blue eyes.

Clara: Show me the picture you are holding.

Leo handed the crumpled photograph to the kind female lawyer.

Clara gasped loudly as soon as her eyes landed on the faded color image.
