The estate remained tense and silent throughout the long evening hours.
David had taken Leo to the private pediatric clinic to be examined.
Rachel was resting in the master suite upstairs behind locked doors.
Vanessa slipped out of her room quietly into the dark upper hallway.
She needed to find real evidence before she was forced to leave.
She walked softly toward the security control closet near the main office.
The house was equipped with high-definition cameras in every major hallway.
David had installed the system himself to keep the property secure.
Vanessa reached the wooden door and tried the brass door handle slowly.
The door opened with a soft click because it had been left unlocked.
She stepped inside the small room filled with glowing monitor screens.
She sat down in the leather chair and tapped the main keyboard.
The system requested an administrative password to access the recent video archives.
Vanessa remembered seeing David type his access code earlier that week.
She carefully entered the numbers on the glowing numeric keypad.
The main screen unlocked instantly and showed a list of recording files.
Vanessa scrolled back to the exact time of the afternoon accident.
She selected the camera that covered the upper staircase landing area.
The video footage loaded on the screen in sharp clear resolution.
Vanessa watched as her own screen image appeared in the video frame.
She saw Rachel walk up to the top step holding a plastic truck.
Rachel deliberately placed the small toy right on the slick wood edge.
She then stepped back into the doorway and waited for Leo.
Vanessa felt a sudden wave of sharp anger wash over her body.
Rachel had intentionally created a dangerous hazard for the innocent boy.
When Leo approached, Rachel did not try to stop him at all.
She only moved forward after the boy had already slipped down.
Vanessa quickly plugged her personal flash drive into the computer tower.
She copied the raw video file onto the small metallic drive.
A soft noise outside the door made her freeze in place.
She pulled the drive out and slipped it into her pocket.
