Mark came home from his bank office late that rainy evening.
He placed his heavy black briefcase near the front coat rack.
Sarah met him in the narrow hallway with a warm hug.
She wanted to tell him about the tense conversation in the kitchen.
However, Mark looked completely exhausted after his long workday.
Mark: Hey honey, it was a very tough day at the office.
Sarah: I am glad you are home now, Mark.
Mark: How was Leo doing throughout the afternoon today?
Sarah: He had a little trouble resting, but he is okay now.
Mark: Is my mother upstairs resting in her bedroom?
Sarah: Yes, she went up to her room an hour ago.
Mark walked into the quiet kitchen and poured a tall glass of water.
Sarah walked up next to him and rested her hand on his arm.
She needed her husband to listen to her genuine concerns.
Sarah: Mark, we need to talk about your mother staying here.
Mark: What happened today while I was away at work?
Sarah: She questioned my parenting skills again this afternoon.
Mark: She is just from an older generation, Sarah.
Sarah: It feels like she actively disrespects me every single day.
Mark: She loves Leo and just wants to help us out.
Sarah: She told me this house belongs only to you, Mark.
Mark let out a heavy sigh and rubbed his tired eyes.
He felt caught between the two women he loved the most.
He did not like seeing his wife upset or stressed out.
At the same time, he found it hard to confront his mother.
Mark: I will talk to her tomorrow morning before I leave.
Sarah: Please set a firm boundary with her this time, Mark.
Mark: I promise I will make sure she respects your authority here.
Sarah: Thank you, because I cannot keep living like this.
They walked upstairs together to check on little Leo in his nursery.
The baby was sleeping peacefully in his small wooden crib.
Mark leaned over and softly kissed the baby on his forehead.
Sarah watched her husband with a mixture of love and hope.
She hoped Mark's conversation with Evelyn would finally fix things.
She wanted their home to be a place of quiet peace and love.
Later that night, Sarah lay awake listening to the falling rain.
She heard footsteps moving quietly down the hallway outside.
Evelyn was wandering around the house late into the night again.
Sarah closed her eyes and prayed for a better morning tomorrow.
She knew that her child deserved a safe and calm environment.
She fell asleep hoping that tomorrow would bring much needed change.
