Mark checked Clara's face with wild desperate eyes immediately.
She was breathing heavily and sobbing uncontrollably in fear.
Her pink dress was crumpled around her shaking knees.
Clara: Is our baby safe?! Please tell me!
Mark: Hold on, stay calm... I have you safe.
Mark cradled her head tenderly against his navy suit.
He looked up toward the upper balcony with furious eyes.
Eleanor stood above them staring down in frozen silence.
Mark: How could you do this to her?!
Eleanor: No, please! It was a terrible accident!
Mark: You shoved my pregnant wife off the stairs!
Eleanor: I lost my balance! I never meant to!
Mark reached into his coat and grabbed his smartphone.
His fingers trembled violently as he dialed three numbers.
He pressed the phone tightly against his left ear.
Mark: Get an ambulance and police here right now!
Mark: My mother just pushed my pregnant wife!
The dispatcher took down the address without any delay.
Mark ended the call and tossed the phone aside.
He wiped a warm tear from Clara's pale cheek.
Mark: Stay still sweetie... help is coming right now.
Clara: Everything happened so fast Mark.
Mark: You do not need to explain anything now.
Eleanor rushed down the sweeping staircase toward them both.
Her burgundy suit jacket looked wrinkled from sudden distress.
She reached out her arms toward her injured daughter-in-law.
Eleanor: Let me see if she is hurt Mark!
Mark: Do not step another foot closer to us!
