A Desperate Dive for Life

A Maid Risked Her Life to Save a Baby

Elena ran across the wet slippery tiles as fast as her legs could carry her.

She did not pause to take off her shoes or heavy apron.

She leaped headfirst into the deep end without hesitating for a single second.

The sudden cold water stung her eyes and took her breath away instantly.

Underneath the surface, the dark blue water was murky from the sudden commotion.

The stroller was sinking rapidly toward the nine-foot bottom of the deep end.

Baby Leo was strapped securely inside, sinking upside down into the darkness.

Elena kicked her legs frantically, pulling herself downward against the water pressure.

Her chest burned as she kicked harder to reach the sinking black frame.

She grabbed the cold metal handlebar with both of her shaking hands.

Her fingers fumbled frantically with the plastic buckle holding the baby inside.

The clip was jammed tight, pulled fast by the weight of the water.

Elena pulled with all her remaining strength until the plastic buckle finally snapped open.

She gathered the small soaked infant tightly against her chest with one arm.

Using her free hand and strong legs, she pushed hard against the bottom.

They rose toward the bright flickering sunlight waiting above the clear water surface.

Elena: Help me! Somebody grab him!

Elena burst through the surface, gasping loudly for air and coughing hard.

Little Leo was choking and crying hysterically, his little face bright red.

Another housemaid named Sarah rushed over from the outdoor kitchen area.

Sarah dropped to her knees on the edge and pulled Leo out safely.

Elena climbed out of the pool, gasping for breath and dripping wet.

She immediately wrapped the freezing baby in a dry white beach towel.

She held him close, rocking him gently to soothe his loud terrified cries.

Meanwhile, Victoria stood up slowly from her lounge chair nearby.

She pulled off her sunglasses and put on a look of sudden horror.

She began screaming at the top of her lungs toward the open mansion door.

Victoria: Marcus! Help! Something terrible has happened to the baby!

Marcus sprinted out of the back patio doors, his suit jacket flying open.

His face turned deathly pale when he saw his soaked, screaming baby son.

He rushed over and took Leo into his arms, trembling with pure terror.

Marcus: What happened here? How did he fall into the pool?

Victoria pointed an accusing finger directly at Elena's wet, shivering face.
