The Broken Tray Of Glasses

A Maid Embraced Her Son Before Revealing The Stepmother Secrets

The grand dining room of the Vance estate was filled with the soft sound of violin music and light chatter among wealthy guests. Crystal chandeliers hung high above long wooden tables decorated with white roses and silver cutlery. Waiters in dark vests moved quietly between the tables, filling wine glasses and clearing empty plates for the city's richest families. Inside this bright room, nobody expected a sudden scene that would change multiple lives forever.

Claire adjusted her clean white apron with cold, trembling hands while standing near the kitchen swinging doors. She was a quiet young woman with kind eyes, but deep lines of sadness had settled around her face over the past three long years. She worked twelve hours a day as a housekeeper and maid in the massive mansion, wiping down countertops and cleaning floors without ever raising her voice. To the guests and the head butler, she was just another nameless face hired to keep the estate running smoothly.

Butler: Claire, pick up that tray of champagne and take it to table four immediately.

Claire: Yes, sir. I am taking it over right now.

She lifted the heavy silver tray carefully, balancing ten tall glasses filled with bubbling drink. She kept her chin down and walked with small, measured steps across the polished hardwood floor toward the front hall. Across the room stood Richard Vance, a powerful real estate investor who owned the mansion, looking handsomely tailored in his dark velvet suit. Beside him stood Victoria, his new wife, wearing a sparkling gold dress that caught every light in the ceiling. Victoria smiled warmly at the guests, showing off a massive diamond engagement ring on her left hand.

As Claire stepped near the grand staircase, the heavy front doors swung wide open with a loud thud. A seven-year-old boy named Leo ran into the foyer, his face red from crying and his hair completely messy. He wore a small black suit that matched his father's outfit, but he paid zero attention to the wealthy guests turning around to look at him. He gasped for air, his tiny chest heaving as tears streamed down his freckled cheeks toward his chin.

Leo: Mommy!

The small boy's scream cut through the quiet classical music like a sharp blade. Claire froze in her tracks, her boots glued to the oak floor as her throat tightened in shock. She looked up and saw the little boy rushing straight toward her with open arms, completely ignoring the rich women stepping back in confusion. Before Claire could even set her silver tray down on a nearby table, her hands shook so hard that the heavy metal tipped forward. Ten heavy champagne glasses crashed onto the hardwood floor, shattering into hundreds of tiny glittering pieces with a deafening noise.

Butler: Claire! What on earth are you doing?

Claire: Leo... my sweet baby boy!

Claire dropped to her knees right in the middle of the broken glass and wet floor, not caring if the sharp shards cut into her uniform. Leo threw his small arms around her neck, burying his wet face deeply into her white apron while sobbing uncontrollably. She held the back of his small head tightly against her chest, pulling him into an embrace she had prayed for every single night for three painful years. Tears poured down her face as she kissed his forehead repeatedly in front of sixty stunned party guests.

Claire: You came back! I knew you would come back to me!

Leo: I missed you so much, Mommy! They told me you went away forever!

The room became completely silent as the guests stopped talking and stared at the maid kneeling on the floor with the host's young son. Victoria's bright smile instantly disappeared, replaced by a dark look of pure anger as she took two fast steps toward the center of the hall.
