The Unbroken Will

A Greedy Stepmother Tried To Take Everything From Her Daughter

Inside the locked top drawer of the mahogany desk, the small yellow plastic tube of the Epipen remained completely out of reach. Clara pressed her forehead against the polished floor, fighting with every ounce of willpower she had left inside her body. She remembered her mother's soft voice from years ago, telling her to always stay strong no matter how difficult life became. Her mother had built a multi-million dollar business from nothing, facing down corrupt business partners and fake friends who only wanted her wealth. Clara knew she could not give up now, not after everything she had survived since her mother's mysterious passing six months ago.

Three weeks before her sudden illness, Evelyn Vance had discovered that her husband Richard and his son Julian were secretly stealing funds from the company's charity account. They had forged signatures on official bank documents to transfer money into offshore private accounts. Evelyn had immediately met with her trusted estate lawyer to update her last will and testament, placing the entire eighteen million dollar inheritance inside a protected trust fund. She had also established a secret security protocol with the central bank, instructing them to freeze all financial assets instantly if any suspicious activity or emergency call was placed using her private security passphrase.

Julian: You think you're so smart, don't you? You always sat in that chair looking at me like I was a criminal in my own home!

Clara: You are... a thief, Julian...

Julian: I am the rightful heir to this family business! My father spent five years taking care of this huge mansion while your mother spent all her time at her corporate office!

Clara: She paid... for your entire life... your car... your clothes...

Julian: She treated us like servants! She kept all the property deeds in her own name! Even the private jet was registered under her personal company!

Julian walked over to the desk and picked up a heavy crystal paperweight, turning it over in his hand with a cold, angry look. He watched Clara's ragged breathing slow down dramatically. Her body was growing weaker by the second, her fingers barely twitching against the dark wood floor. Julian knew that every passing minute without oxygen was bringing Clara closer to total collapse. He checked his watch, seeing that it was almost four fifteen in the afternoon. The silence in the giant home office was thick and heavy, broken only by the faint hum of the air conditioning system and the far-off sound of wind blowing outside the large glass windows.

Julian: In ten minutes, it will all be over. I'll call the emergency services myself and tell them I found you like this on the floor. I'll tell them I searched everywhere for your medicine but couldn't find it in time.

Clara: God... will judge you... Julian...

Julian: God isn't looking at this room right now, Clara. Eighteen million dollars is worth a little bit of waiting.

Clara: You won't... get a single dollar... of my mother's estate...

Julian laughed softly, a dry, bitter sound that echoed off the high ceilings of the room. He walked toward the double wooden doors of the study, planning to pull them shut and wait in the hallway until the room went completely silent. He felt a sudden surge of confidence, believing that his plan was working perfectly. He believed that with Clara out of the picture, his father would become the sole legal administrator of the Vance trust fund, allowing them to dismiss the bank hold and claim the full eighteen million dollars within a few weeks. But just as his hand reached out for the heavy brass door handle, a sudden, thunderous noise echoed through the grand foyer outside the home office.
