The Catch On Marble

A Father Saved His Daughter Before Her Stepmother Could Act

David ran forward faster than he had ever moved before.

His heavy dress shoes slipped on the polished stone floor.

He leaped across the landing with his arms reaching wide.

The rushing sound of wind filled the wide open room.

Lily's yellow dress flashed brightly in the morning light.

David dove straight toward the spot where she was falling.

He extended his chest forward and reached into the air.

His fingers caught the hem of her bright yellow dress first.

He pulled her small body into his arms mid-air firmly.

They hit the hard marble floor together with a loud crash.

David landed heavily on his knees to protect her head.

He rolled onto his side, taking the full hard impact.

The sound echoed loudly like thunder through the empty house.

Silence fell over the room for one brief awful second.

David held Lily tightly against his dark grey suit jacket.

He trembled all over as tears sprang into his eyes.

He pressed his face into her soft yellow shoulder immediately.

Lily began crying hysterically against his warm neck.

David: I've got you. You're safe now.

Lily: Daddy, she pushed me!

David felt a cold wave of pure anger fill his veins.

He held his child tighter and patted her small back softly.

He wiped the tears from her red cheeks with his hand.

He looked at her arms to make sure nothing was broken.

Lily was shaking from the sudden scary fall completely.

David stood up quickly while holding Lily on his hip.

He turned toward the upper balcony with a furious look.

His teeth were set tight as he stared upward directly.

Evelyn stood frozen behind the top white handrail above.

Her face was completely pale like a sheet of paper.

She had not expected David to be in the house.

David: You monster! You will pay for this!
