The marble hall of the Sterling estate hummed with soft orchestral music and the chatter of wealthy guests. Crystal chandeliers hung high above, casting a warm glow on the polished white floors and the massive American flag draped along the back wall. Julian Vance stood near the grand staircase, swirling a glass of champagne, though his heart wasn't in the celebration. His five-year-old daughter, Lily, had gone missing from her bedroom less than twenty minutes ago, and a quiet panic was beginning to claw at his chest.
Julian: Has anyone seen Lily? She was supposed to be upstairs with her nanny.
Evelyn: Calm down, Julian. She probably just wandered into the garden again. You know how she loves chasing the butterflies.
Julian: No, Mother. She never leaves her room without her stuffed bunny, and I found it sitting on the floor near the service hallway.
Before Evelyn could reply, a sharp gasp echoed from the far side of the room. Guests parted as Martha, a housemaid in a grey uniform, dropped to her knees beside a wood-paneled wall near the main hall display. She pulled frantically at a hidden latch hidden behind a decorative molding. The panel popped open with a dry creak, revealing a dark, narrow utility cavity behind the drywall.
Martha: Oh my goodness! Mr. Vance! Come quickly! I found her!
Lily: Daddy! Daddy, help me!
The room went dead silent. A small, trembling hand reached out from the dark gap in the wall. Martha gently pulled five-year-old Lily into the bright light of the mansion hall. The little girl was crying hysterically, her face smudged with plaster dust, clutching her torn plush bunny to her chest like a lifeline.
Julian: Lily! Oh God, baby, what happened?!
Julian broke into a sprint, pushing through the gathering crowd, but before he could reach his daughter, a woman in a shimmering champagne gown stepped into his path. It was Victoria, his late wife's sister, who had been staying at the estate for the past week under the guise of helping with the family business. She grabbed Lily roughly by her thin arm, trying to shove the frightened child back toward the dark wall opening.
Victoria: Put her back! Nobody was supposed to find her!
