Victoria slowly stood up and stepped directly between her husband and her weak twin sister. She stared at Richard with pure hatred in her eyes, showing absolutely zero fear despite his imposing height. She realized now that the man she had married was nothing more than a greedy coward who cared about money far more than human life.
"You are a monster, Richard," Victoria said, her voice completely cold and steady. "You locked my sister away like an animal just so you could control our father's money. You thought you could hide this forever?"
"I offered her a settlement!" Richard shouted, waving his hand wildly in the air. "She refused to take the money and leave the state! I did what I had to do to protect our lifestyle! Nobody is going to believe a word of this! It's your word against mine, and I control every single bank account!"
Before Richard could step any closer, red and blue lights suddenly flashed through the dark trees outside the cabin windows. The loud, blaring sound of multiple police sirens filled the night air as four police cruisers slid to a sharp stop in the muddy driveway. Heavily armed officers jumped out of their vehicles, pointing bright flashlights straight through the cabin door.
Victoria raised her hand and pointed her small cell phone at Richard, showing him the screen. The screen was displaying an active emergency call that had been recording every single word he had just said for the last ten minutes.
"I called the police the moment we left the ballroom, Richard," Victoria said with a harsh smile. "And I made sure to leave the line open so dispatch could record your entire confession."
Richard's face drained of all color as officers burst through the front door, shouting orders for him to put his hands behind his back. He tried to argue and pull away, but the officers slammed him against the wooden doorframe and snapped heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. Within seconds, he was dragged away into the night, kicking and screaming uselessly as his life completely fell apart around him.
Three months later, the morning sun shone brightly through the windows of a beautiful new home overlooking a large quiet park. Victoria sat at a long wooden dining table, drinking coffee while reading through the final divorce papers and the legal documents that fully restored Sarah's share of the family inheritance.
Sarah walked into the sunny kitchen wearing a warm sweater, looking healthy and full of life once again. She smiled warmly at her twin sister and poured herself a glass of orange juice before sitting down at the table. From the backyard, the happy sound of Lily laughing echoed through the open screen door as she played happily with a new golden retriever puppy.
Victoria reached across the table and took her sister's hand, squeezing it tightly. They had lost fifteen years of their lives to greed and deception, but they were finally whole again. Nothing would ever tear their family apart ever again.
