The Attack In The Bedroom

The morning light poured into the grand master bedroom of the Dallas mansion, casting bright beams across the polished hardwood floors. Hannah pulled her pink satin robe tightly around her shoulders, trying to calm her racing heart after another endless night of sleepless anxiety. For three years, she had lived inside this massive Texas home, feeling more like a prisoner than a loved daughter-in-law. Her husband, Mark, had promised her that living with his mother was only temporary until his tech firm launched, but temporary had turned into a daily nightmare.

Victoria Vance ruled the estate with an iron fist, treating everyone around her as lower class tools meant for her family business empire. She never missed an opportunity to remind Hannah that she came from a simple, working class neighborhood on the south side of town. To Victoria, Hannah was nothing more than an gold-digger who had trapped her precious son into a rushed marriage.

Suddenly, the heavy bedroom door flew open with a sharp bang against the white painted wall. Victoria stood in the doorway, her dark silk robe billowing around her frame like dark wings. Her face was twisted with intense, unbridled rage as she locked eyes on the young red-haired woman sitting on the edge of the large king bed.

Victoria: GET OUT! YOU ARE RUINING MY SON'S LIFE!

Before Hannah could even register the threat, Victoria raised a heavy decorative pillow high above her head and charged straight across the sunlit room. Hannah gasped in complete shock, scrambling backward across the silk sheets as the older woman lunged forward like an angry beast.

Hannah: LET GO OF ME!

Victoria grabbed the lapels of Hannah's pink robe, her fingers digging deep into the soft satin fabric with frightening physical strength. The heavy pillow swung downward, striking Hannah's shoulder as she fought desperately to block her face from the assault. Tears of terror and sudden humiliation filled Hannah's wide eyes as she struggled to push the aggressive woman away.

Victoria: GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE!

The bedroom door slammed open again as Mark rushed into the room, his white button-up shirt untucked and his face pale with sudden panic. He had heard the loud screaming from down the long hallway and sprinted inside just in time to see his mother physically attacking his young wife on their bed.

Mark: STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

Mark stepped between them instantly, grabbing his mother's wrist and forcing her back with a firm pull. Victoria stumbled backward, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she pointed a shaking finger at Hannah, who was trembling on the mattress.

Victoria: She was snooping through my private office, Mark! She is trying to steal what belongs to this family!

Hannah: That is a complete lie! I was looking for my own personal passport!

Mark: Mom, you cannot just burst in here and put your hands on my wife! This has gone way too far!

Victoria: You stupid boy! You have no idea what kind of snake you brought into our home!

Hannah sat up quickly on the edge of the bed, her fear rapidly transforming into a sharp, white-hot fury that made her entire body shake. She swung her bare legs off the side of the bed and dropped down onto her knees near the heavy oak nightstand under the bright daylight.

Hannah: I have taken your abuse for three years, Victoria. Not anymore.

She reached deep into the narrow space between the nightstand and the bedframe, her fingers closing tightly around the smooth cover of a dark green binder hidden safely away. She pulled the binder out, clutching it firmly against her chest as she stood up tall to face both of them.

Mark: Hannah, what is that binder? Where did you get that?

Hannah: I AM FINALLY GOING TO STOP LETTING THIS FAMILY DESTROY ME!

Victoria's eyes went wide as she recognized the green leather cover, her face draining of all color in an instant. The confident bully had vanished, replaced by a terrified woman realizing her worst secret was about to be dragged into the open daylight.
