The rope whistled through the hot afternoon air as Sarah lost her grip completely on the slippery rough fibers. A blood-curdling scream echoed through the mansion grounds as Sarah plummeted down toward the backyard swimming pool below. Clara watched in helpless horror as Sarah's body fell through the daylight, twisting in the air before hitting the water. A massive, loud splash impact sent water spraying high into the air, covering the patio stones with wet spots. The pool water swirled violently as Sarah disappeared beneath the bright blue surface without making another sound or scream.
Evelyn leaned over the railing, a cruel, satisfied smile spreading slowly across her wrinkled face as she watched the water. Daniel stood right beside his mother, adjusting the collar of his polo shirt without showing a single shred of regret. Clara fell to her knees on the hard balcony floor, her hands bleeding and her heart shattered into pieces. She looked over the edge, terrified that Sarah might not surface from the deep end of the pool below.
Evelyn: It was a tragic accident. The maid saw the whole thing slip away.
Daniel: Yes, a very sad accident. We tried everything to pull her up.
Clara: You pushed her! You let her drop on purpose!
Evelyn: Watch your tongue, girl! You are just a maid whose word means nothing!
Clara wiped her bloody hands on her apron and forced herself to stand up despite her knees shaking violently. She looked at Evelyn and Daniel, seeing two greedy predators who cared about nothing except their luxury mansion and money. Suddenly, a movement in the water caught Clara's eye, and she looked down at the pool with renewed hope. Sarah floated up to the surface, gasping loudly for air as she grabbed the edge of the pool ladder. She was alive, coughing up water as she pulled herself slowly out of the deep pool onto the concrete.
