A Cold Heart Unmasked

David Vance stood inside his high-rise downtown boardroom, looking out over the city skyline while his chief legal advisor reviewed the family trust documents. David was a handsome, hardworking man in his late thirties, dressed in a sharp black suit that matched his serious work ethic. His mind was not on the multimillion-dollar real estate deal sitting on his desk, but on his baby son back home.

His lawyer, Marcus, signed the final page of the estate setup and pushed the thick leather folder across the polished oak table toward David. The paperwork guaranteed that in the event of David's death, the entire mansion, the business empire, and all financial assets would be held in a secure trust managed for Leo until he turned twenty-one.

Marcus: Victoria will not be happy with these legal terms, David. She gets a comfortable allowance, but no direct control of the core capital.

David: Victoria married me, not my bank account. My son's future and protection come before anything else in this world.

Marcus: Just make sure your home life stays calm. Money like this can drive desperate people to do terrible things.

David nodded slowly, picking up his car keys from the table. Marcus's words echoed in his head as he walked down the private executive elevator toward the underground garage. He had noticed Victoria's growing anger over the past few weeks, her constant complaining about the baby taking up all his time and attention. She had even suggested hiring a full-time live-in nanny to take the child away to a separate house in the countryside.

Back at the Vance mansion, the morning heat began to rise. Victoria stood in the center of the grand hallway, pacing back and forth across the marble floor under the large American flag. She held a thick glass of iced water, her fingers squeezing the glass so hard her knuckles turned pale white. She could hear the quiet whimpering of baby Leo coming from the white bassinet near the sunroom door.

Sarah came out of the kitchen carrying a warm bottle, her steps soft and careful as she approached the crying infant. Before Sarah could reach the bassinet, Victoria stepped directly into her path, blocking her with a fierce, cold stare that stopped Sarah dead in her tracks.

Victoria: Step away from that basket right now, Sarah.

Sarah: Ma'am, the baby is hungry. It is time for his morning feeding.

Victoria: I said step away from him! I am sick of hearing his constant whining in my mansion!

Sarah: Please, Mrs. Vance, let me just give him his bottle and put him to sleep.

Victoria: You work for me, not for that tiny leech who is taking what belongs to me!

Sarah took a brave step forward, her heart pounding wildly against her ribs as she reached past Victoria toward the bassinet. Victoria suddenly swung her arm, knocking the glass bottle out of Sarah's hand, sending warm milk splashing across the bright white floor. Sarah gasped in horror, backing up against the wall as Victoria reached down and grabbed the small, blanketed newborn out of his bassinet with harsh, careless hands.

Sarah: Put him down! Please, you are going to hurt him!

Victoria: Get your dirty hands off me and mind your business!

The baby began to cry loudly, his tiny arms reaching out into the cold air as Victoria walked deliberately toward the heavy grand piano. Sarah watched in terror, her breath catching in her throat as she realized Victoria had completely lost control of her emotions, driven by pure greed and blind rage.
