The Dinner Duty Demand

A Cruel Family Secret Exposed At The Dinner Table

The bright chandelier shone down over the large formal dining table in the family mansion.

David had invited his extended family over for what was supposed to be a celebratory Sunday dinner.

He wanted to share the good news about his recent company expansion with his mother Evelyn and his relatives.

However, the mood in the room felt cold and tense from the moment the guests arrived.

Evelyn sat at the head of the table in her glittering silver dress, looking around with judgment.

She had never liked Sarah, David's quiet and hardworking wife of six years.

Evelyn always believed that her son should have married into a wealthy corporate family instead.

Because of this bitter resentment, Evelyn spent the entire evening making unreasonable demands on Sarah.

Sarah stayed polite and tried her best to host the large family without causing any open drama.

Little five-year-old Lily sat quietly next to her mother, holding her favorite small teddy bear.

When the main course was ready in the kitchen, Evelyn snapped her fingers impatiently at the table.

Evelyn: The soup is sitting on the counter and getting cold while we wait here!

Sarah: I will go bring the serving dish out right away Evelyn.

Evelyn: No Sarah, stay right in your chair because you walk far too slowly.

Evelyn turned her harsh sharp gaze directly toward little five-year-old Lily.

Evelyn: Lily can bring it out to teach her how to serve this family properly.

Sarah: Evelyn, she is only five years old and that iron dish is far too heavy.

Evelyn: Nonsense, a child needs to learn useful work instead of being spoiled every day.

David was standing near the sideboard, filling water glasses for his uncle and aunt.

He did not hear the quiet command his mother gave to his tiny daughter in the kitchen doorway.

Lily walked into the kitchen, trying to be a good girl and make her grandmother happy.

The heavy metallic hot pot was steaming violently on the center kitchen island counter.

It was filled to the brim with scalding hot vegetable broth for the entire family dinner.

Lily reached up with her small hands and tried to lift the heavy metal handles.

The extreme weight made her knees wobble instantly as she carried it toward the dining room.

The thin metal handles transferred intense heat directly into her tiny delicate hands and fingers.

Tears began to spill over her cheeks as she tried desperately not to drop the pot.

She took three shaky steps into the formal dining room while crying out in terror.

Lily: Daddy, help me! It is too hot!

Evelyn did not offer to help the crying child at all as she watched from her seat.

Instead, the older woman pointed her finger sternly at the frightened girl.

Evelyn: Make it fast and bring it straight to the table without spilling!

The rest of the relatives sat in complete silence, watching the little girl struggle terribly.

Not a single person at the long table stood up to assist the crying five-year-old child.

Sarah jumped up from her chair in horror as she saw her daughter shaking violently.

David turned his head fast as the loud sound of his daughter's crying hit his ears.
