The Tides Turn

Evelyn: You frozen my accounts? How am I supposed to pay my personal staff? How am I supposed to pay my legal retainers?

Richard: You can use whatever cash you have in your purse. Because as of five seconds ago, every asset tied to the Vance family estate is completely locked to you.

Evelyn: You can't do this to me! I have rights under Texas state law!

Richard: You forfeited those rights the moment you put a bucket of bleach in my daughter's hands and forced her to scrub tile like a prisoner.

Lily: Dad... my phone is upstairs in her jewelry safe. The code is her birthday.

Richard: Go upstairs, Lily. Grab your belongings. Pack everything you need. We are leaving for our downtown penthouse in twenty minutes.

Evelyn: She isn't taking anything from this house! Everything in those rooms was bought with family money!

Richard: Family money that I earned! Don't you dare raise your voice to her again!

Lily nodded quickly, hurrying past Evelyn and running up the grand staircase toward her bedroom. For the first time in three weeks, she felt the terrifying weight lifted off her chest.

Evelyn: You're making a massive mistake, Richard. You think the press won't hear about this? A prominent Dallas CEO throwing his wife out on the street?

Richard: Let them print whatever they want. When the media finds out you were abusing my teenage daughter while forcing her to sign away her trust fund, let's see whose reputation survives.

Evelyn: Nobody will believe her! It’s her word against mine!

Richard: Did you forget who installed the cloud-backed security system in this house, Evelyn?

Evelyn’s eyes darted upward toward the tiny glass domes positioned high in the corners of the foyer ceiling.

Richard: Every camera in this house records audio and video directly to an off-site server managed by my corporate security team. I have three weeks of continuous footage stored on a secure server right now.

Evelyn: You... you were recording everything?

Richard: I set up the system to keep the house safe. I never imagined I’d be using it to send my own wife to state prison.

Evelyn: Richard... please. We can fix this. I was under so much stress... the isolation, the management of the property...

Richard: Save it for the judge, Evelyn. You didn't show my daughter an ounce of mercy. Don't expect any from me.

Upstairs, the sound of a wardrobe opening and luggage zippers pulling echoed down the grand hallway. Lily moved quickly, packing her clothes, her art supplies, and her personal journals into two large suitcases.

Down below, the sound of approaching sirens began to wail in the distance, growing louder as they turned into the quiet luxury neighborhood.

Evelyn: Are those... are those police cars?

Richard: That would be the Dallas Police Department arriving to take my statement. I suggest you go upstairs and gather your personal effects, because you won't be sleeping here tonight.

Evelyn: You can't kick me out of my own home!

Richard: The house is owned entirely by my private family trust, which was established ten years before I ever met you. You have zero property ownership here.

Evelyn backed away toward the living room sofa, collapsing onto the velvet cushions as her tears of anger finally turned into genuine tears of panic.
